DIY oil catch can pictures, I should have taken measurements first because it doesn't fit where the ALTA does but will on passenger side firewall. If I decide that I don't like the hose routing from there then this one will go on my other car and I'll make another MINI specific. I have a stainless steel canister and parts ready to make-up another for MCS.
Oil catch can connections ?? First off, credit for this diagram goes to MiniPilo. <http://www.thepilo.com/images/oilcc.jpg>

You would need to plug the manifold side if disconnecting from the valve cover, as Pilo indicates and vent the catch can back to the ambient tap.
inside the valve cover, both tubes are protected from splash by baffles and are intended to collect vapor only.
Parts
The aluminum can 16oz, had a fuel additive in it.
3/8x1/4 in. hose barbs, 2
sight tube fittings, I made-up by cutting double ended barb in half and soldering into 90 degree brass 3/8 in. fittings.
Radiator drain ****, 3/8 in.
Mopar V8 breather cap, this has a built in filter and aluminum mesh to condense oil from vapor.
Grommet, Mopar part to fit in valve cover and accept breather cap
3/4 in. copper, about 3in. for baffle
Silicone, Black Hi temp. sealant
Epoxy, PC 7/JB Weld
paint, hammertone dark silver
hose, I use Gates 3/8in. id fuel/emission hose, it won't collapse or rot.
I had alot of this stuff already in my garage, think that's about it………. Norm03S

Very Nice! The only thing that I would change is the use of a Sapporo Draft can.

Thanks norm03s, the larger pictures help alot. Just wondering, do you need the breather cap? Couldn't you use the can as you made except with solid bottom (actually top of the inverted can) and run the lines like the Alta Can? This would make fabracating a bit easier but, would it work as well as your design?

The breather cap acts as the last filter before returning crankcase pressure to the intake hose. The plumping into the aluminum can allows the hot gas to expand condensing the vapor to oil any last bit will be caught by the in cap filter and aluminum mesh. Pick one up in an auto parts store and look in it.
I used the same style cap on a 10.5 to 1 340 cu. V8 and it kept the oil out of my air cleaner and this is one step better. My next one will be MINI specific for location sake. Heres a pic of the parts.
BlueMCS, don't know what a Sapporo Draft can looks like. I used to get it in bottles in Japan but that wasn't draft. Thanks you guys....... norm
