AEM Cold Air Intake on a N18

I tried doing a search, but just couldn't find what I wanted. Is there any reason the AEM CAI wouldn't work on a N18? I'm subscribed to the AEM thread all about this intake for the 07-10...but it's a long thread and when I viewed it...I couldn't find out WHY this wouldn't work with a 2011+.

I was told the only difference in the OEM intakes is the 2011+ have a harder plastic pipe that doesn't need to be replaced like the 07-10. If this is true, the AEM should still work...I'd just be getting a fancier pipe that I don't necessarily need. Since the intakes I'm looking at are around $250 anyway, an extra $100 seems like a deal for so many extra parts. And yes...I like to dress up my engine bay. LoL.

I apologize if this has been asked 100x...I just couldn't find the answer.

The aluminum tube wont fit since there is a sensor on the stock tube, if you bypass the tube i dont see why not as long as you get a silicone elbow that will connect the maf/tube to te filter box

Thanks! That's exactly what I needed to know. I'm looking into how I can tap into the AEM tube to make the sensor fit...or keep the OEM one.

Nothing has to be modified. I went through the AEM install instructions again and that MAF sensor gets relocated into the airbox. The AEM pipe should work fine. See attached image.

Any other reasons why this shouldn't work?

Before you buy one, talk to whoever you buy it from to ensure that they are selling the "updated" design. They had some issues with the "scoop" piece deforming due to heat from the turbu and the design of the piece. They are revising the design to correct this. They are also the heat shield and gasket on the top of the air box.

something ive noticed about this intake is the same thing with NM's they sell a different kit that doesnt include the charge pipe option for 2011+ just the silicone elbow at the end. which would lead me to believe theres a difference in the pipe and i think its on the other end... i could be wrong i looked at getting this intake as well anyone with any updates?

The kits don't have the charge pipe because the 2011+ have a hard plastic pipe from the factory and the 07-10 dont

So did you install this yet?
Looking for your feedback.

Just curious, has this been installed on 2011 with success. If so any additional modifications discovered? I have one on order.

Talk about disappearing lol

I was looking at the instructions, and I think the stock inlet tube can be cut, and just purchase a silicone piece to connect it to the aluminum pipe and you're set.

The reason for cutting the stock inlet tube is because of that sensor on it. I'm considering doing this but just don't know if the mounting holes for the intake box are any different from the N14 to N18?

Yes, cut the grey metal tube to only use the 90 degree bend.
Be sure to measure the length before doing so, or you can cut too much off.
The heat shield will also be unusable, unless you remove the valve cover.

I spoke to Ken from AEM, he said August 28 to get the n18 stuff in. He said the air boxes are taking a while to manufacture.

They changed up the design to yield better results then the current offering for the n14s.

This may be a silly question but is it safe to run a CAI without a tune/reflash? This would be on a 2011 MCS. Anyone have comments on the AEM CAI?

Yes it is perfectly fine to run a Aftermarket Intake with out a tune. I just put a NM intake on my Wifey's Clubman S. It is made with great quality and sounds great.

Any updates? Hopefully it fits my new GP without issue.

Crazy timing, I just spoke to Ken about 30min ago.

I was told they should be getting the first articles in by this Friday/early next week. If the fitment goes well, they'll hit shelves in 2 to 3 weeks max!

Cannot wait! I've been sitting ever so patiently lol.
It should fit your GP no problems. It is an N18 after all !

The articles that came in were bad. Fitment issues everywhere.

I'm not even sure when they'll be ready. Rather annoying as this should have came out last November.

That's too bad. This is the intake I've been looking at for a while.

Yea, I don't blame anyone for going with something else.

I'm almost tempted to get an n14 version and modify it to work. All I really want is the scoop/air box, filter assembly. But man is that pricey for just an intake.

Personally, I'm in no rush. Play funds have been severely limited since having a kid at the beginning of the year. When it's released, I'm sure it will be great, and I will look into picking it up then. I'm in no rush.
