Well, getting those power efficiency gains it's not the issue on the N18 turbo engines. It's making sure the necessary hardware upgrade mods you add must work reliably. As, I've seen a few aftermarket parts that did not work, & sometimes even causing engine loss gains.

I've just purchased the RaceChip Ultimate for my 2013 JCW MINI hardtop automatic---- the only modes I have are the NM intake and the Alta hotside pipe--I will post future results

Well I balked at the Renntech tune that I was going to do, I have a '13 mcs that no one can tune. I spoke to someone at NM who said the piggyback is coming early May ($700). I thought that would be te best delivery system for people with warranty concerns. Although now I have been reading about knock issues with the piggybacks?? I've only had OBD flashed tunes in the pastso if anyone has any knowledge of piggybacks and Mini's, please chime in...Thanks!!

What were the mods? Just the ECU tune? I'm down to my last two options in RennTech/PAW and NM. And next month is my final decision.

That was from the same set of runs that I posted before, I believe.

Same general gains.

Piggybacks / RaceChips are begging for problems. It's been thoroughly discussed. I feel sorry for your engines.

As for the 2013 being "un-tunable"... tell that to my 2013 JCW.

i thought the dyno chart you posted was from "PAW"? are they the same as renntech?

is this a run from your 2013 jcw? if so, i hope that absolutely means they can tune my late ecu 2012

if it is renntech, what is the difference between sport on/sport off?

thanks

When I said "no one can tune" i didn't mean that exactly, just that the options are slim and none. And yeah, the more I read about piggybacks the less I want one. NM told me the other day that right now a piggyback is it for a 2013.

I would be really surprised if there were any other mods on the N18 in the above graph, if there were, that's not very impressive.

So how's the tune on your jcw? can you share any other details?

Above dyno it's a tune only Stock automatic CountrymanS using the Sport button feature done in Florida Summer time humid conditions weather. With additional good mods, the N18 could even get to +250whp in a Dynojet. There's no magic in making engine more efficient, specially in a cool Mini Turbo

This is not a JCW dyno I can confirm that. The difference between sport on & off. It's "OFF" car will behave at tad better to near stock performance & "ON" will engage the full tune performance. It allow two driving dynamics for drivers preference.

Hey Lenny. I'm guessing that is one of my runs. It was on August 10 in south Florida. Only had a k&n filter, automatic, and 90+ degrees outside. Not the ideal combination for making real big power. Still really good results and making the car run and feel right seemed to be the top priority. Lenny test drove the car a few times. It was not just about making the dyno numbers look good on a dyno chart.

Lenny. One more question for you. Since the tune I've added the forge fmic (r56 model), nm hot/cold pipes, nm torque arm insert, and I plan to do the exhaust and have renntech install the akrapovic dp. Anything else I should do before I bring it back to renntech to be retuned? Thanks.

That's right DKIKK77! It's your humble CountryManS. I assume you probably are happy modifying it more now. I just can't get enough addition of driving a MINI S, even I get the chance to drive many few beastly AMG's biturbos at work.. it's still more fun driving a Mini. ( I might regret saying that LOL)

Hmm... Get a oil cooler (PAW), HighPower ign plugs, exhaust, etc. Turbo upgrade if budget allows (from 2013 GP/JCW for stock OEM performance or FTurbo)

Thanks. I'll look into that stuff. Any particular plugs you recommend?

Lenny, with a intercooler, forge hot side boost tube, K&N panel filter, custom magnaflow 2.5"(2nd cat and resonator delete); what numbers could a MINI Cooper S 11' automatic achieve? Mind you I will probably add a DP later on. I will send my ECU in and I'm curious to what I can get?

^ Let me post it for you - you are definitely going to get tuned within the next month or two and RennTech is back on your ON-AGAIN-OFF-AGAIN-ON-AGAIN-OFF-AGAIN list of tuners that you are considering. . . .

Well...I still don't think $1k is justified for a tune but if I decide to use RennTech, PAW, or NM, I want it to give me my best results for the mods I have. I'm not asking for the fastest car but something that not everyone here in my state has on their MINI.

Plus since Lenny is active on here I don't see why I shouldn't ask those questions.

Rob, you've been over-thinking this for some time now. Just choose the price you're comfortable with. They will all be similar. The power will be equivalent. Literally.

Does anyone else notice that dyno.. after 4.5k flat on its face.. no power..

thats rough and doesnt look like a good tune.

Compare the graphs:

Name: ScottR56JCWDYNO3.jpg
Views: 352
Size: 499.8 KB

Just look at the difference in their 4.5-6k over the one posted above.

Looks like the N18 just dies after 4.5k and goes flat.. interesting.

Awesome, Lenny. Really hope it comes through. Yes, they are great guys. I am heading over there tomorrow to get the full exhaust installed. Really, really hoping you can work your magic.

An oil cooler is something I've been thinking about. It seems like a good longevity/reliability mod. I was shocked when I saw on my ScanGauge that the oil temps are regularly in the low 200s.

Question is, where do you mount it that it won't get in the way of the FMIC? Especially since I'm going with the TyrolSport FMIC, which covers most of the radiator?

You have all the info you need. RENN / Lenny is great, NM / Jerry is great.

You have the ability to be tuned by anyone since you have a 2011 - go with NM and be done with it, please.
