Drivetrain The Always Up-to-Date Thread on Tuning 2011+ (N18) MINIs

Sport mode isn't going to affect how fast the revs climb when downshifting. If I'm understanding you correctly the only thing that will affect this is a lightened flywheel = less rotating mass.

just wanted to make sure - you realize that with the default settings, the gauges don't get hijacked until you're running over 5lbs of boost, right?

I just read something interesting for you N18 owners.
I quote "Group4 Autosports. We have partnered with PAW motorsports and are pretty much the only kids on the block tuning n18 motors reliably. Unfortunately, Mini got really crafty with the ECU security which makes it really difficult to tune. We have a few other shops we work with, but so far most people have just mailed us their ECU's. We also suggest you add an Intercooler to help keep your motor cool with the added power, and we have a set of high power spark plugs that come along with the kit. If you are interested drop me a line, and We can give you a good price on the kit! We have seen between 25- 30whp and 20-30 trq picked up on the N18 motors just with the tune, spark plugs, and Intercooler! And as much as 40 lbs feet of trq with other mods! The automatic is an added twist but Lenny has worked out the bugs there too!"
Anyone try them?

More info,
" WJ's MINI N14 R56 is sitting at 262 at the wheels now, but it took quite bit of work to get it there. We are actually just finishing up a 2013 N18 JCW Countryman and were very pleased to squeeze 232whp/233trq with just a down pipe, exhaust, intercooler, and spark plugs. We are currently testing our new turbo upgrade and combined with the DOS intake are getting dangerously close to 250whp without major engine work! Most companies have bowed out of tuning the turbo Minis because of how complicated the ECU's are to get right. Lenny is our tuner and he also wrote the tunes for RennTech and Buckhead Imports!"

My car tuned by Lenny at Renntech gained 27hp/51tq on one run and 22hp/57tq on a second run. Not exactly the same gains right? Expect more than they advertised and expect no issues if Lenny works on it. And the car was stock at the time.

all good and well if you live on the same side of florida as lenny. hujan tried getting hg motorsports to work on providing lenny a platform from which to remote tune. that never materialized, so us west coasters were back to square one, until bms stepped in recently. there's been so good progress made already, and terry's continuing work on bigger/better tunes.

That's fine, I'll take the increased gains, 300 extra dollars and flexibility of removing the tune at any time I wish rather than risking anything with removing and sending my ECU and be without a car in the process.
Plus Terry has Stage 1 already in the works and allows upgrade pricing. I and a considerable amount of members here would much rather take that approach.
