Turbo replacement

Turbo replacement
Hi! just need some help

Got my turbo leaked and to be replaced.

The garage priced me $2200 do you think it's costly?

I'm thinking to purchase online, If you guys know any good sites or any recommendations I can check. I happy to hear if you can share.

I know a lot of you here are experts.
Considering our weather here in Dubai gets extremely hot when it's summer.

saw this one if this is worth it.

Thanks in advance.

If you can do without the car you can have the existing turbo rebuilt to factory spec or uprated for $500 or less.

Alta makes an upgraded turbocharger that's 30% more powerful than the stock S or JCW turbos and it's around $2200 but they have been out of stock for some months now.

If you are some what mechanically inclined you can do it for less than a $1k. That includes the turbo and the oil lines and gaskets.

$2200 is fairly close to MSRP on the replacement factory turbo. Given that, I'd say it's not necessarily a bad deal, just one of the more expensive items to repair.

Here is my idea.. Since u r in dubai..

Well if u r not gonna tune the hell out of ur mini mcs in ur area dont do the upgrade turbo....

I had a gti mk6 with apr tuned
Some told me apr atage 3 which is upgrade turbo... And thats about it no... U gonna need to spend $$$$on other parts since u gett more boost with diff spec hardware.. Just get a replacement with oem spec turbo if u gonna tune a bit..

It is going to be hard to do anything other then factory on a restricted timeline. If yours isn't a factory JCW you can use an OEM JCW turbo for a little extra power. Easy to order, easy to install, cost is no different.

Exactly what Creeve said. I'm currently on the same boat, my turbo failed on monday. I think I'll just get the JCW since its almost, if not, the exact same price as the regular S turbo. Your dealership should be able to get you one no problem. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-GE...a2e6ec&vxp=mtr

How do you know

I just bought a 08 S Clubman auto and the engine light came on and the power is not what it should be. the exhaust is also wheezing, and idle is low and rough in drive.

Louh56, you should probably take it to a shop to have it checked out.

Where's the best place to get a replacement turbo or mine rebuilt? I've got the same problem, turbo went out yesterday and the dealer wants 3100.00. They're on crack. I'd like to see if I can do it myself. Any suggestions on how to videos or DIY websites? Or is this something I need to shell the cash out for and have someone else do?

How many miles do you have on your MCS? What year?

Go to a public library that subscribes to ALL DATA and read through the proceedure for changing the turbo. Make sure there are no special tools that you would have to invest in. You could also change out the turbo cartridge. It appears to be a simpler job but it is certainly more technical.

The dealership isn't on crack its about a $2000 part and then it's pretty involved job. Remove bumper, pull things apart to make room, unbolt everything, drain oil, etc...etc.. So if you figure 7 hours at $125 an hour...

They could probably do it faster but most places quote you on book time.

If you can do it yourself you would save some cash but not like 1/2
