Crank Pulley Question
Hey guys, ive seen alot of people offer light weight crank pulleys, isnt this something i dont want to do to the car unless im tracking it since i would need the harmonic balancer? or are they two serpate parts? cause i figure that when im doing the SC pulley i should do the crank pulley if it will keep my mini reliable

If you're going to replace the crank pulley replace it with an ATI SuperDamper http://www.atiracing.com/products/da...ts/dammini.htm

I had an ati I bought from wmw installed at greasys a few months ago...
Car DOES seem to idle a tad smoother than the OEM.....bet the prw liquid damper would do the same if $$ is tight....
Yes....the damper IS part of the pulley....if you look at the OEM style pulley...there is an inner metal part, and then a thick layer of rubber (much thinner on a non s), than the outer metal part that the pulley rides on....thus there is s rubber doughnut to absorb what an engineer calls harmonic frequency's....the replacements us different designs to accomplish the same thing.
Wmw has posted in the past that when he takes motors apart, it is obvious from the wear, if a non dampered pulley was on the car....so for longterm reliability, a dampened pulley, IMO, is the way to go.

Slight weight savings....think about a pound or so...nothing huge....
If you can take a prybar and wiggle the pulley from side to side...then the rubber is starting to fail...yanked mine off early to prevent getting stuck when it did go....
It looks OK...bet I could even sell my used , good looking junk pulley to somebody online for $50....lol...might be good for 5-10k miles....but I am too honest!!
