over in my subaru world people would frequently use the 91 octane stage 2 map but put in 93, because OTS maps still knock and sometimes bad depending on your particular car so they would use 93 as a safe measure. Thing is, through the accessport they can actually see if they're knocking, we can't see the raw data, only advance via gauges.

Us N18 guys just have the timing advance to go by, which in my opinion isn't exactly optimal in my opinion(but we're limited due to technology at the moment, understandable). reason being, timing advance can remain still for a while and not necessary retard, while detonating. but it can also do that if a constant linear increasing load isn't had for the entire gear pull. so it's really tough to gauge actually how much knock there is. a knock light would be awesome, perhaps a tester could use det cans to really see.
Best pump gas I have here is 92 octane and that's what the car always gets. There is a station that sells 'race' gas probably 100 octane and non-ethanol gasoline as well but I haven't tried either of those.

I remember reading in the owner's manual that the car can run on 89 octane and that even though light knocking can be heard (paraphrasing here), it will not affect longevity of the engine O.O

Yah, kinda like changing the engine oil every 15K and tranny oil never is fine :P

How would you know for 'sure' the actual octane you put in your car at any time? We really just 'trust' what it says on the local station pump. 'They' probably sell one octane for 3 different prices. I really don't know.

There are cases where you have unethical station owners but the pumps do get inspected by the State.

Great, now I'm paranoid and will never get on boost ever again for fear I'll blow up. Thanks.

If everyone is so skeptical about octane grades, then you might as well be scared about the food you consume as well. Everything we have in life will cause some sort of skepticism.

Hi guys,

On the JB+ our higher temperature enclosures and stickers finally came in. If you need one just email your address to orders@burgertuning.com with "MINI JB+ Enclosure Needed" in the subject.

I have been subscribed to this thread since the beginning! Getting very eager for this! Haha!! Any way there could possibly be 2 step, anti-lag, or no lift to shift features incorporated into this? That would be absolutely amazing if it was possible! I know that with the WOT box (i believe they are called) they have the capability to do that with just a piggy back system so to speak. Just wondering if there is any interest in this and if it could possibly become a reality! Thanks!!

Not the JB+ but those are possible JB4 features.

How do you like the torque arm insert? I just ordered one myself (I have an '13 auto).

I have had mine (2011 clubby a auto) installed for a few weeks and I don't get why the car didn't come this way. Good by torque/bump steer, hello safer and more fun driving!

So excited that I bumped into this thread! Any thoughts on the long term effects of the tune? How will the increased boost effect the N18, if any? Would there be early turbo failures or cylinder/ valve wear?

Also, for the CAN tool, will the MINI have shiftlight capabilities?

The S turbo seems to max out around 20 psi. Stock is 14 psi and the JB+ bumps that to 16-18 depending on the setting. So running anything closer to the limit is sure to wear it out faster. All you can do is change fluids very regularly, monitor temps if you feel the need, and enjoy the ride.

The JCW runs 19 psi stock (bigger turbo) with upgraded piston faces and cylinder sleeves, I believe, to handle 20+ psi boost when tuned. It also had a lower compression ratio than the S/GP2. AFAIK there aren't any JCW's testing the JB+ but time will tell on that promising platform.

The CAN does shift light on the dash (both blinkers) at an RPM you specify from 3k in 200 rpm increments IIRC.

I absolutely love my torque arm insert!! Smoothed out the car a lot! I might actually get the bsh torque arm to get a bit stiffer of a mount over the NM.

How long was the break in? Did it reduce vibrations or eliminate when it was broken in?

I'm sure it will work on the GP2, just...nobody has tested it yet...so we don't know what the car will do.
