Turbo manifold with bigger runners and smoother cast.

Anyone try it or think it would make a huge difference?
Correction shorter runners.

Just put it on this weekend. Works a little too good for me. With the other few engine mods I have, not my boost spikes and the ECU cuts it off. Turbo spools at 1500 rpm if not sooner now. I like it and hope an ECU tune is all I need to get the full enjoyment out of my mods. By istelf I'm sure it wont cause the issue I have. It looks nicer, goes on much easier than the factory one comes off, and out performs the factory piece.

Update: I had a leak, found it, fixed it. Exhaust manifold is great! Hard to explain the smoother power band from 1500ish rpm to redline and it feels like if the rev limitter wasn't there the tach would go full circle. Made a nice difference and to me, it's worth the major pain to put it in.

Too early to tell about MPG but I'm sure it'll depend more on how heavy my foot is now. If I can keep out of it, I may get more MPG. Not a sprinter any more or less than stock. In a word, smoother. As far as what the turbo spooled at before, honestly I had no reason to check or pay attention to it before so I can't give that answer. Sorry to let you down a bit on that point, maybe someone with a stock JCW can answer?

The internal dimensions looked pretty close, I didn't measure though. The big difference is the runners. Can't see in the pic but the longest section is slightly curved upwards on the factory part where the new one is straight. That also makes the bolts that much easier to get to on the new one.

Update on MPG. Filled the tank before I normally would when I drive downtown. It's about 110 miles round trip and use cruise control. more "testing" to be done later but so far when you take my foot out of the equation for the most part, it's a good 3 or so MPG increase. I'm sure if I race around town I get less than I used to as well because I have more performance.

Page 3 post 53. ColinMC pretty much nailed it.

I had a mechanic friend to help me so really all I did was the little easy things while he did most of the real work. Some of the bolts were tricky but much easier when putting the new one on. Also the lower heat shield (the hardest part of install) got slightly modified. Sorry no pics but we took some metal sheers and cut the top corner that you pull out by the alternator. It made reinstall a breeze. My friend actually never had to loosen the alternator at all. It is a super tight fit to take out the turbo with manifold but like ColinMC said, it does come out once you get it just right. Mini dealership was going to charge me $800 for the install. Cost me some pizza and beer and a good time with a good friend and I learned some stuff.
Oh and I also had the gasket kit Way sells too when I did the install.
