Drivetrain Melted valve Cover

Melted valve Cover
Well installed the M7 heat shield and used it once at thetrack for 3 sessions and it decided to trap all of the heat and melt my valvecover… now it need to be replaced and it is not covered under warranty becausethe heat shield was installed. Dealer said just for the valve cover and gasketit will be around $600 not including labor. and there is a wire that runsthrough there that is part of the main harness that is probably damaged if sothe whole harness needs to be replaced. Im assuming this can be slightlycheaper If I find a small shop and have them do it but just wondering if anyonehas had a similar issue or any advice?

WOW. I'm with that guy above me. That's complete BS. Get in touch with M7 including the pictures you have there. I see no question, if nothing else was added there other than the heat shield, that the heat shield caused that.
Get a turbo blanket this time around. Keeps all the heat in the hot side of the turbo where it HELPS performace, but doesn't let the oil line, center bearing, or cold side get soaked in heat like that heat shield obviously causes. Let alone melting the damn valve cover!

I just emailed M7 and sent them the pics so ill keep everyone posted. Ill look into the blanket I was hoping this would actually have the same effect, it defiantly kept it hot lol I was able to find a new valve cover on ebay for 300 shipped im hoping nothing else was damaged but I don't want to tear it apart till I have the new cover in hand. in the mean time if you have a heat shield on I would suggest to take it off a hood scoop is cheaper than the valve cover if it melts.

Mine may have been cheaper because I bought it off ebay but before I bought it I checked my vin number to make sure it would work with my car, I see a lot of people with good reviews of the m7 shield but after seeing this I would recommend everyone against it. if it is trapping in this much heat imagine what it is doing to your turbo if your trying to get performance out of it your just going backwards having your turbo get this hot.

by the way still nothing back from M7, this is already not looking good, there was just an issue yesterday with evolve tuning and within one day not even contacting the company they were sending him a pm to get things cleared up,

I have the same problem but having been running with no heat shield for 50k miles so no surprise there. I actually have a small hole melted right next to the oil line. Next step will be thermal wrap everything with no heat shield and a thermal blanket on the turbo which i feel will be the most effective method. As far as the harness i wouldn't worry too much. Let's just say i have had many parts of it come into contact with things they shouldn't and dangle in precarious locations during my projects and testing while in the beta zip tie mode and its pretty robust

Wow, That is hot. I have seen that happen to a couple cars here at the store. Different shield but similar results.
If your interested we keep the valve covers in stock. Gaskets are included.

No answer when called, Chad from Detroit Tuned (great shop awesome customer service!) actually called yesterday and said they would be emailing me back but I still haven't heard anything and I have emailed twice to them about this posted here and on facebook thinking they would see it everyone else has. seriously even a quick message to say hey were looking into this for you would be nice obviously they don't care enough about there customers to do that though. and it not like they don't have my contact info to get ahold of me because they just took my money last week...

Wow. That is **** poor customer service! And a **** poor product to hit the market without enough testing to have found this issue. It's a part you might expect people to buy for a perfomance vehicle, they didn't anticipate someone tracking their car once in a while with it on??? What kind of testing DID they do?

That's exactly what im saying, I was hoping for some sort of compensation because im our the cost of the heat shield and the new part for the car and my time its taken into contacting them and taking my car into the dealer and waiting and fixing the car and not being able to drive it until it is fixed

Anything yet? I'm curious to see what they're doing... I mean calls/emails from a customer with a complaint getting completely blown off while they come on this forum to post up more promotions to get customers... Pathetic business tactics. "We don't test our ****, it might fail, it might cause issues, but once the sale is over, you're nobody to us" is exactly what I'm seeing here.
