any update from the SF Bay Area person that's supposed to be offering the tunes?

I emailed info@manicmini.com a while ago about a few things related to fuel, bolt-ons, but never heard back.

It's not per map, It's is a 3 step process.

Step 1 is to update the DME to the most recent factory software.~30 minutes on N18. ~15 minutes on N14
(helps keep dealer from flashing over tune since the factory tool will not overwrite anything that is up to date)

Step 2 is the "unlock" flash which allows switchable code . Same time windows.

Step 3 loads all performance maps at once. Same time windows.

Good numbers and nice you did a base test. And really good numbers especially for a mustang dyno. They notoriously read low. Will be good to see the numbers with the new turbo. Did you have the spray on for the base run?

Thanks! And no I only sprayed meth on the last run.
Will get the K04 as soon as I sell my JCW Turbo.

Just spoke with Nick. He advised me that the "boost cut" on our vehicles can be defeated. It is not hardware limitations, like everyone thinks it is, but only software. He says it's an easy fix. Currently he is running 1.6-1.7bar on a N14 MCS no problem. N18 is a little different but they are running 1.6bar on that one. For the record, his company did crack our "impossible, military grade encryption, self generating password" (as members said) MEVD 17.2.2 ECU. So I kinda believe him when he says he can defeat the boost cut

Realistic Expectation?

I apologize if this has been answered some where in 24 pages of this thread. Good thing there's no interest! Haha.

So...I have an '08 S nearing 100K and runs great. I have a JCW dealer installed tuning kit and a Helix intercooler and the usual piping cleanup done, stock S turbo. What tune level would be spec'd and what might the expectation be of performance improvements? Can anyone quesstimate an "is it worth it quotient"? Thanks.

This thread is for N18 motors(2011+ MCS). Having a N14, your tuning options are much more plentiful.

You need to talk with the tuner (whichever one you choose) and your mechanic about what tune level your car can handle. It really comes down to how healthy your engine is after 100k miles. Which ever way you go, I believe that it will overwrite your JCW tuning kit tune.

The tuning kit gave between 9-18 HP, depending on who you talk to. A typical tune will get you between 20-40 HP, depending on how aggressive you go.

I finally have time to have my Manic tunes files put on tomorrow morning. Received this info yesterday. You will have a stock mode and three performance modes. Mode A runs about 1.3 bar of boost. Mode B runs 1.4 bar of boost and little more timing, and Mode C (for this car) runs 1.5 bar and aggressive timing intended for 93 octane plus methanol on top, 500cc meth. You can a run a little less, but not you don't want to be too low.

1.3 = 18.5 PSI
1.4 = 21 PSI
1.5 = 22 PSI

Seems like a lot of boost, no?

Those sound like my boost levels on my GP with FBO. What model is your Mini, turbo and bolt on's.

I'm curious as to where on the compressor map you are at 22 psi. Assuming that you have the stock turbo, I'd imagine that you'd be putting out a bunch of heat. Can the engine handle 22 psi, reliably?

EDIT: Here's a compressor map that I got from Frankenturbos website. So at 22psi, your pressure ratio is 2.5, now I wonder what your flow rate is? Assuming a VE of 90% then I'm getting 26 lb/min at 6000 rpm. That puts you pretty far out there on the map.

Hopefully someone will double check my work. I'm not an expert by any means on this subject.

But assuming that it is correct, then you definitely need to have a larger intercooler and meth to combat the heat generated, which you do have both.

Now I'm curious to see your IAT temperatures for the C map with the meth spraying full blast.
