Just wondering if it's worth it to get the jb+.
Or go with the manic tune.

Depends on what your looking for.

The JB+ is user installed in minutes, warranty friendly and adds about 10-15 HP. Costs $200-$250 on the used market.

The Manic tune is flashed at a Manic dealer or you have to mail the ECU in. It would surely void your warranty but it adds more HP depending on your supporting mods.

I've had both and the Manic tune wins hands down from a performance standpoint. It produces more boost, more timing and better AFR.

But it's comparing apples to oranges. It's not really fair to compare the JB+ to a ECU tune they serve two different purposes.

I have the JB+ so I can only speak to that but yes, it works and IMO is pretty nice for $300 (new.) I'm still under warranty for another year and my MCS is stock so a tune doesn't make sense for me right now. If you're brave, you can play with the dial on the JB+, to further increase boost. I currently have it set at around 75-80% using a 75/25 mix of 93octane/ethanol, giving me around 96 octane and the JB is even more noticable. But if you are out of warranty or don't care and have the supporting mods, i'd get a tune. You'll gain atleast twice the power the JB will give you and it will be tweaked more for better driveability. good luck

A tune will 100% void your warranty. The JB+ you can simply unplug before you take the car in for service and will not be detectable. Plug it back in when you get home. An older post by Terry at BMS (from what I remember) showed he ran a 14.2sec. 1/4 mi. @ 104mph with 94 octane and the JB set at 75% on what I think was a stock MCS, so it works. I believe the info he shares.

Just do it! I don't really consider it a mod but I also use a k&n drop-in filter. Add's to the fun with a little more turbo noise. So between those two, for $340 and you will have about the same power to weight ratio as a new stock VW GTI, if you're looking for further power comparison.

The JB+ is VERY noticeable. It's a great deal, especially because it installs and removes in 30 seconds. Pick one up in the for sale forum here. Lots of people seem to be selling them since the n18 DME was cracked.

I'm only at only 16k miles and my warranty expires @ 75k miles. Hmm, I don't think it's wise to void my warranty just yet. lol

The Manic is near impossible for the dealer to read and one of the great things about the Manic Tune is you can switch it to 100% ECU setting in 5 seconds. I have tons of customers with Manic that go to the Dealer for service and warranty work. The only thing the dealer can do it write over the Manic tune with a new ECU version, but that rarely happens and the N18 is pretty much done with new ECU updates

Doesn't this tune or any other ECU tune need to have supporting mods (ie. aftermarket FMIC) to be able to handle the extra power/heat to prevent damage? If so, wouldn't those additional mods potentially void the warranty even if the ECU tune went unnoticed?

I'm no expert and I'm not always monitoring boost but just by feel, I've never felt at any moment anything even close to stock conditions with the JB+ plugged in and adapted. Boost can increase/decrease with the change of weather/location.

Why? When you take it in for maintenance they change the oil, they don't drive around recording boost levels, doing 0-60 runs, etc. They might notice that it's peppier than other cars but they drive different cars all day long and they probably don't care enough to notice.

In the end do what you're comfortable with.
