What's the loudest exhaust I can get with no drone on the highway?
I currently have a custom exhaust on my car which sounds great but I find it annoying when it drones on the highway. I like having a very loud exhaust as my car is a Stage 3 also. Just the highway is the issue. Right at 3000 rpm it likes to drone so I have to play with the throttle to control the noise. I heard drone is caused by vibrations or sounds bouncing off the walls of the exhaust. Maybe since my exhaust is so cheap. Any of you folks with an expensive exhaust or even CNT exhaust have drone on the highway? Maybe I'll sell this exhaust if anyone gives me good news. lol

I'd highly recommend the quicksilver exhaust. Much much louder than say Borla or miltec, but does not drone at highway speeds. I had it on my 2010 Cooper S and loved it, than I bought a new JCW and took the quicksilver exhaust and put it on my girlfriends 2011 Cooper S. She absolutely loves that loud pops and angry growl it has. Plus, since it's a direct bolt on which eliminiates the second cat, there is a nice bump in power/turbo spool up. And since there is no O2 sensor there, no CEL or sniffer problems either. I'd suggest ordering it direct from quicksilver in the UK versus say Mini mania. Current exchange rate puts it at $736.99 plus shipping which I believe is around $75. There is a video of my old car on their website, the BRG mini with the number 7 on the side for sound check.

Like the Milltek and when it get some miles on it ( burn in so to speak ), get a hair louder. The non resonated is louder. Also the Milltek does not drone. The round tips fit the JCW bumper. The Oval tips fit the Cooper S standard bumper. If you get the high flow cat also, you will also pick up a little more sound. Also free ship currently.
All in stock and ready to ship. Milltek has been doing new MINIs 2002+ since the beginning and are a UK brand.

I have a stage 3 N18. I want the quicksilver but my concern is the diameter. I want at least a 2.5inch diameter because I am running a bigger K04 Turbo. CNT looks cool for $340 but I suppose you get what you pay for. Maybe lots of the drone comes from my catless down pipe? I have an Evolve catless down pipe. Mods in my signature. I'll take a look at the milltek. I just want very loud with no highway drone.

Milltek is a great exhaust and the quality is top notch. Milltek non res exhaust is pretty loud and no drone. Also a nice tone. Good exhaust to look at.
I have see made at home customs exhaust all the time and when they go super loud they drone like crazy because of the acoustic characteristics. Vibrates the rear glass at cruising rpm and such. Trunk vibrates.
Good luck.

I have the JMTurbo 3X4. If you want loud and the sound of a high end sports car this pipe make that happen. No drone, just loud and proud.
You have to run their 3" catless DP pipe to match it up. The fit for the dp is off by an inch for the mount . The pipe hangs a little low under the engine.
The pipe runs 3" till about the front seats and the changes to 4". The theory is as the gas cools leaving the turbo it wasn't to expand . By having the 4" it lets it expand and not slow down the flow. He has a good right up on the website. I have the whole system wrapped to keep in the heat. It's to big for my stock turbo but I'm going to be running an Owens turbo and doing the internals of the motor. Since you have the bigger turbo it would work great.
From what I read online if your planning on going to 300 hp the 3" pipe. If your happy with 250 hp then 2.5" pipe is the ticket.
One thing I found in my exhaust hunt was , it seams like videos posted don't sound like the pipe with your ears unless it's done with a real mic. GoPro mic's and cellphones mic's don't capture it for me.
Good luck
