This would be interesting to know.
But if you are just interested in which head is on the engine, your dealer may be able to help, we called then with the serial number off my original head to see if it was truly a JCW part or not.
The lead of the team that designed the engine was active on the forums a few months ago, but he hasn't posted in awhile. I'm sure he could tell you. His username is "Unbreakable Lump".
I cant imagine that's the difference, that's huge, that looks like a BVH
You're right, I hadn't clicked the link until now.
The linked photo is an exhaust port comparison between the TPR2 and TPR1, which is close but not exact to the JCW.
The picture of the intake ports is the polished version of the new head I have, the TPR2r.
The only pic of all those images that has a JCW head is the one labeled " JCW vs OEM " the other images are Thumper's work which far exceeds anything on a stock JCW head.
i was posting my jcw head 2006 for sale and no one seemed to have interest in it. So i decided to install it on my r53. I took it to a respestive machine shop and as well brought the regular r53 head so that they could compare the 2. I was told that the jcw head's intake/exhaust was slightly ported/polished and bigger than the r53's head. They have flow machine and tested them for me, so overall the flow from JCW head is 12% more than the stock. I asked them to "mild" ported and polished the head again as well as porting the intake manifold to match. Oh boy, after the installatio with dominator cam/rmw header and powertone exhaust. My r53 is flying. Will tune the car in September once Jan comes to Phila. Long for short, JCW head is overall flowing better than the regualr one
Why not just rework a standard r53 head then? JCW uses the same base casting. Do a clean up of the casting material, have the throats and bowls smoothed and open the ports up to match the gaskets. You can polish out the exhaust side but should always leave the intake side a little rough (aids in fuel atomization since airflow always follows the walls). A flow bench is the best way to test as you go though to optimize the porting, but a little clean up never hurts as long as you aren't heavy handed.
The rules are kinda bullcrap though... JCW and S both in STX. How are you supposed to compete with the exact same car that's lighter and has more power?
I know right? I went out and found a jcw so I could compete evenly its really effed up that they did that, its not like mini are competitive against good WRX drivers as is let alone with the regular s handicap and no LSD either
