Street/ track clutch

Does anyone have any suggestions for a clutch that would be good for hpde track days and street use?

The Valeo clutch & single-mass flywheel kit is a good choice for street & track dual-purpose car up thru 230HP. Your stock MCS flywheel is 26.4 pounds, the Valeo is 24 pounds, so a little less weight.

I am a fan of steel flywheels, and you can get them as light as 14# (ACT #600315). A lightweight flywheel will gain revs a bit faster, but they can be a royal pain in stop&go heavy traffic or starting on steep hills. (San Francisco is nearby for me.) Our R53's are low-compression, and don't have a lot of torque below 2500 RPM. That's why the R53 comes with flywheel that's almost 10# heaver than the R50, because a spinning flywheel stores torque for launch.

My track R53 has 195 whp (dynojet) and valeo slips on track pretty bad after about 10 minutes. I had to remove it and install a better cluch.

you can hear it slip here when I go under the bridge. Slips going into 4th and 5th. All I had was bolt ons, cam/pulley/header/tune

So what clutch did you go with after removing the Valeo?

xtd stage 3 on that car. the new build is going to have a adlerspeed twin plate. Still waiting on a flywheel for the adlerspeed setup.

On the street the valeo does not slip, cant get the engine/trans hot enough for it to be a problem I use a valeo on my BVH car that has at least 40 more HP and it does not slip because it's only used on the street

I have the Exedy Stage 3, a very small learning curve to understand it's street manors, no where near as different as the OS Giken to stock.

(Oops, thought it was a typo, fixed it)

The only thing I had to do with my XTD not to be confused with exedy was turn the idle up to 1400 so I don't have to listen to the rattle

I have a Valeo kit in my 2006 JCW. Never had any issue with it slipping at HPDE or lapping days. It's been in the car for almost 7 years now. I keep my sessions down to 20 minute blocks.

I have the exedy SMF conversion kit on my R53. It's my daily and I do 2-4 track days a year. I have nearly 20,000 miles on it and it's been flawless so far. The pedal is lighter than stock, but it has a good feel and noticeably responsive throttle. I also think that the flywheel can be used with some upgraded friction discs or spring plates if I wanted to.
