Drivetrain Forge Hard Pipe

Forge Hard Pipe
Hello, It’s been about a month since my friend Nick and I installed Forge's intake hard pipe. Here’s an update and quick product review.
Purchased From:
: @WayMotorWorks, they had it in-stock and on sale at the time.
Product Quality:
: Excellent I understand why this product is normally not in-stock or backordered.
Removal and Installation:
: Forge’s instructions were straightforward and easy to follow.
The only difficult part was removing the OEM pipe in one piece without removal of the NM Engineering strut brace.
- We found it was easier to separate the OEM part by removing the one time use clamp then pulling the pipe out from the left side of the engine bay.
For the installation we removed three out of the four bolts on the NM Engineering brace and tilting it upwards.
- The fourth bolt would not come out and did not want to take a chance with stripping it.
Nick is going to post a video to his YouTube channel “The MINI Vlog” in more detail about the installation process. I will update this thread with the link once it’s up.

Review:
: I’ve done about three hundred miles since installation. I can say that throttle response feels quicker and smoother especially in Sport mode. Inside the cabin you can hear the engine/turbo a little more but, I did not purchase this product for noise.
- I have Active Sound Design disabled via BimmerCode and the OEM engine air filter installed
: I love how this product cleans up the rear of the engine bay and it doesn’t scream aftermarket other than the silicon hose with their name on it
: Only downside is the silicone hose is thicker and with the strut brace installed you cannot easily change the engine air filter without removing the entire air filter assembly.
- It’s not a dealbreaker for me but just wanted to mention it in case any forum members had that question
: I haven’t really noticed the pipe getting hot but it does get warm. I feel and could be wrong but the plastic pipe felt hotter at times.
Gas Mileage:
: Before, 25-28mpg. I have the NM Engineering power module installed and set to low. Mixed driving conditions (street/highway and in Sport mode)
: After, 33.3mpg on the last drive which included heavy stop and go traffic on the highway in Sport mode and same low setting for the power module.
Overall I’m very happy with this product and it’s quality. Sure the installation could have been simpler by removing the heat shield, wipers and cowlings but we did not want to go down that rabbit hole.
@TVPostSound, I saw your thread about the pipes diameter and I will take a measurement soon. I want to adjust the clamps and clean the pipe.

I like!!
The only thing putting me off from pulling the trigger right now, is the silicone hose.
Some wise *** smog check person will see that, and fail it. The tube is stealth.
I cant remember if I need to smog at 6 or 8 years.
So it would be this year 2022, or 2 years from now 2024.
(2017 is considered built in 2016 for smog in CA)

TVPostSound, thanks : )
That would suck to purchase it and have it fail the smog test. Back in the early 2000s with NYS inspection friends of mine with Civics would remove third-party exhausts and headers in order to pass. Once the car passed they would reinstall it, but it drove them crazy every year.
Oh the o-ring seal... the one thing I was most worried about because I've read a few posts about it coming off or being damaged.
- It does stay on the turbo inlet and is slightly recessed too. It was no problem at all.

Think the pipe would be stealth enough to not be suspect as aftermarket, also wouldn't affect any emissions,
its the silicone coupling with FORGE all over it that screams AFTERMARKET!!!
One could always get a generic black silicone coupling to install during inspection!!!
I put an order in with Way!!!
Need a cleaner intake path to go with my 70mm GP3 exhaust!!
FIY, Im selling the Burger intake, had it on for 20 miles, but too much turbo spooling sound for me.
Too many Hondas around here with that sound, its just not me.
Hence the Forge Intake pipe and GP3 exhaust, should stay sane.

So one would assume this fits up to 2022.
MMR pipe has a lot smaller diameter, you can see it by the reducer part of the silicone connector at the MAF.

Cool!! Pretty much the same way I did mine!!!
The pipe you called evap, is the blowby pipe, the connector is attached to the blowby heater.
Thats a hard connector to disconnect.
Why does my engine cover not have the ,oiled foam underneath it, its just a plastic shell.

@TVPostSound, great minds think alike
Yeah, we caught that way after I said it… It was written in the instructions but for whatever reason I had emissions on the mind.
My previous ‘19 F56 did not have the foam material underneath the cover. I was surprised to see it when it was removed.
Maybe MINI updated the part for heat protection or sound dampening?

So I removed the silicone connector today (to remove the "FORGE" logos stamped 8 times)!!
I noticed something odd. The silicone hose is technically 3" ID at the ends, but those strengthening rings sound it
the true diameter inside is 2.5", and ridges.
How can someone sell an item to increase the intake flow, when there's an restriction by design??
