OK- I just ordered mine, I'll keep you guys up to date when I get it installed. 1FSTMINI- as far as any problems with the header- they sounds more like install issues that any good/professional installer could handle fairly easily...no?

OBX Header

I got mine with all the parts included, donut, flange, gasket etc. Just got it back from JetHot with the coating and am looking forward to putting it together with a new high flow cat. My question is:
Did anybody do it on jackstands? Or is a lift required?
I wanted to clamp it all together and then drive it over to be welded together.
I think the bang for the buck fits in line with the car and a marginal gain from SuperSprint would be negated. My $0.02 worth

Android993- WOW! That looks great. I want to get mine coated also but not sure how that would work since I'm going to have the factory CAT welded on? I guess I could remove it from the car once it is all together but then I'd have to drive it with no exhaust- somehow I'm guessing that wouldn't last long!

correct me if im wrong........But your welding your cat to a flange they supply which then bolts to the header..right?. I know that how other companies do it that way for use of a off road pipe if you want to take the cat off.

How much is the jethot coating?

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get a replacement donut gasket? As noted above, mine has failed and I have an exhaust leak now.

Help!!

What's up at Sparktec??

I'm ready to take the plunge and do this upgrade. Just to be sure I could get a header, I tried to call Sparktec. I've tried several times. No answer, no voice mail. I've dropped several emails but no response there either. Are these guys still in business? I don't want to place an order over the web or thru ebay without knowing they're around and have inventory. Anyone have any insight?? Or, does any have first hand knowledge of other vendors selling OBX headers for the MINI? And would you recommend them?

thanks, ripley.

Dan = Spartec. If he has posted an auction, then he has it in stock. He doesn't put up an auction unless he has them in hand. You'd be safe to "buy it now" if there is one.

So it looks like I can coat the header before having the shop do the welding work- that is good news....now I just have to decide on a coating. I'm no so worried about looks- I am more concerned with keeping the engine bay as cool as possible- not too easy with an all black car in Texas!

It should be easier with jackstands Because the wheels dangling moves the sway bar out of the way more.

My OBX is being installed today. I noticed that the precat would be removed. How much louder will my MINImonster be? I also do have a dynomax catback. Is it possible to run the precat and OBX?

OBX header

I noticed a slight sound level increase after the install. I have a Milltek exhuast and the sound still isn't as loud as the Alta Intake, but almost. I like it!

MINIAACK - be sure to post your impressions when you get your car back. I'm interested in hearing if it is indeed any louder with the header installed.

Same here - while I am using the one-ball exhaust, I found it louder as well.

Bahamabart- was it louder at all RPMS or just WOT? Also did the tone change at all, did it get deeper? One last question- was it WAY louder or just a bit louder?

For the JetHot coating it was $165 plus shipping both ways. Really came out nice. I have a '68 Shelby 500KR 428 with headers that have the grey and it looks okay - since its a matt color it doesnt have the shine that the silver has. I'm going to clamp it all together and then drive it over. At least I dont have to wear ear plugs and the shop is a bit of a drive to get the welding done.

did u say ur going to have it welded after the jethot or ur jus goin' to clamp it together.....wont the clampin' break the coatin' off?

and if ur goin' to have it welded, wont that be defeating the purpose of the jethot

im not catchin' the relation cuz what i was referin' to is if u have something coated then weld it it will defeat the purpose of the coating unless it gets coated again after the weldin' is done or will it work fine since they will be using stailess steel to weld it, therefore it will be ok....when ever i used the jetcoat method all welding and fittin' was done (cuz when i used it i had to bang/clearance it out around the header bolts on all my chevy blocks) prior to coatin' so as to not disturb the coatin'

OK, I just read through all 13 pages of this thread, so forgive me if I missed something but which Random Cat was the correct one to use with this setup? I think someone posted that one of the two was too big, but I didn't see which one was the best option.

TIA
