03 MCS stumbles on start

Could use a little help with my 03 MCS . Had an issue a few days ago. When starting ran really rough , like only 1 or 2 cycl were firing . After sitting it started great with no issues.

Yesterday it happened again only this time stumbled and stalled a few times a
nd then nothing ... crank but no start. When I turn the key to position 2 I hear the fuel pump but only the first time. There's no more fuel pump sound after that initial time
Seems to be a fuel issue so the question is where to start . Does this sound like the pump is dying or maybe fuel filter or pressure regulator? Any help greatly appreciated

How many miles on the vehicle? Change anything recently? Ever change the fuel filter?

Had the same issue with my 03 MCS JCW last month, replaced both fuel pump and filter at same time, super easy to do. Runs like a champ now.

You will need the pre 7/2004 fuel pump of the R53, Just make sure you get the correct one. https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Sit...h/16146766177/ The filter is a bit of a pain, but can be done: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...er-change.html

IMO. The pump was easier, than the filter. But then again I’ve never done either before this.

Some have a green top and some newer years have the white top.

If, when you access the filter and find it clogged, there may be trash in the tank as well. If so, think about where you get gas and re-evaluate.
