So Close!

So, another day at Edge Motorworks and another 3 dyno pulls. Today however, was different from most days. I really think that I should have hit the 200whp mark, but something happened Here is the dyno chart, then ill explain.

http://www.motoringcentral.com/images/dyno2.jpg

So, the first pull is the one in blue. Notice near 5,500 RPM the car drops about 15 hp and 15 ft/lbs of torque.... knock sensor??? Something happened to throw what WOULD have been my best run way off. Notice the air fuel on that pull also compared to the other two pulls.... weird huh The dyno technician said it COULD have been because he rolled onto the throttle that pull instead of mashing on it.

On top of that oddity, my best pull was my last pull! Every MINI ive ever seen get dynoed drops horsepower between pulls.... and alot of it.

I guess theres nothing to be mad about... I still put down 12 ft/lbs and 6 hp more than my previous best run, but I still think I could have broken that 200whp mark.... keep in mind, no head, no cams, no ported polished supercharger or intake manifold.

BEST HP: 194
BEST TQ: 171

This seems to be a common 'problem' in many dynos I've seen. On theory is that the ecu is dumping fuel to cool the cylinders just before redline.
I'll be addressing this in a week when I go to get my Unichip tuned.

You can see it here in this chart also, though we smoothed it out a bit as it was much worse. http://members.tripod.com/rcsail/minidyno02.JPG

Who knows... my air fuel DOES dip a little bit right there, but I dont think that would be enough to to dump 15 ft lbs and 15 hp

I GOT ROBBED

Jay, what's the happening?

Your almost there man. I want to know if you sprayed the IC while dynoing and what the intake temps were on your temp guage near redline?

I'd guess wheel slip.

I would say too lean is reason why you had this problem. With pump gas 12.5 on a boosted car is a little too lean. This cause some knock and the ECU pulled timing (loseing power) and added fuel (loseing power). 12.5 maybe ok for lower RPMs, but 5500 where tourqe and HP cross, it is too lean. This crossover point is a major knock area, and the engine is very sensitive to too much timing and too lean AFR's. With 93-92 octane you may be able to get away with this, but that sweet CA 91 i am sure is the cause.

You have all the right parts to do 200, try throwing in some race gas, i am sure you will hit that.

Macncheese brings up a good point about slip, maybe SC pulley belt slip???

New belt, new pulley so thats not it... wheel slip maybe, but I agree that I think the engine was pulling timing. The tuned unichip REALLY made a huge difference in the car. I agree that with better octane fuel, this would have easily crossed the 200 whp mark. Guess Ill just tweek something a little more and go back :D

Congratulations. 194 is very close. And I recall that your engine sounded as though it were inhaling--definitely 200 whp worth of sound.

Interesting that you mentioned the last pull being the best, two out of the last three times my car has been on the dyno the last pull was the best.

Seems odd as you say, most cars the first pull is the best.

Something was definitely up that night. My numbers were all over the place. It's wierd because with that fan my intake temps were 50* cooler than last time. I did more runs later that night, but we were in such a frenzy that I don't know what the numbers were. I still have to go back to get my charts and look at them with a clear head.
