05 convert. MCS exhaust mod .. use just one can.

Can someone steer me the right area or answer this pls ... all these aftermarket exhausts are awful pricey for what they deliver in my humble opinion. However, I'd like more noise ... my 05 MCS convert. doesnt make much noise when wound tight and autocrossing .. I like to drive partially by the sound - and the stock unit doesnt hack it ...

Why couldnt one of the mufflers be eliminated and let 100% of the exhaust go thru just one can ? It looks like an easy job for a good exhaust shop - but I'd sure like some input from one who's done this before I cut the metal and do the welding ...

Help pls .... will this increase the "loudness" factor ?

It's called the "One-Ball" exhaust ...

A search will most likely answer your questions regarding loudness

It's been done by a lot of people here...

Do a search for "one-ball" and you'll get a lot of answers!

I did mine one year ago, and beside from weight-lost and a little more backfires, I didn't see any increase in performance... But, I can tell from the flow that the One-Ball mod is less restrictive than stock config!

Hope that help...

The 'one ball' mod is probably one of the best bang-for-the-buck things you can do. I had a local [non-chain] muffler shop do the mod. My muffler man suggested a mandrell bent 90-deg elbow, instead of a crimped elbow, and he also noticed that it would be real easy to increase the entire tubing run from the cat back to the 90-deg elbow. Upped the diameter downstream of the cat from 2-1/4" to 2-1/2" to mate up with the 2-1/2" elbow.

The sound is what I was wanting, snap-crackle-pop is still there, and the exhaust mod got rid of an annoying resonance I had around 2200 RMP.
Total price - labor and parts - was about $80 USD !!

BTW - Not to start a bonfire here, but I'm not a fan of overpriced / polished exhaust systems that go the function-follows-form route and ignore basic 'fluid mechanics-101' design factors.
