Same here, 1st time I spent a good hour getting that blasted thing back on. Now bing bang BOOM on and off in less than ten minutes .

I think of it as one of those things you develop a technique for, like fitting the intake Snorkel on and off.

(sound effects were for humor I don't reccomend pyrothecnics while doing auto repair)

VGS Happier

I just did mine, pretty easy, took about an hour just because I was taking my time.

Wow it really fixed my initial throttle take up, and just feels smoother through acceleration. Also my subttle yo-yo is better (originally really bad, but much better after v38.xxx).

This might be one of the best mods I have done. My spark plug wire upgrade made a huge difference on my car also.

Thanks to everyone and anyone on this mod!

15%, Alta CAI, ecu remap, kingsborn plug wires, colder plugs, tow hook.

You are joking, aren't you? Coz spark plug wires can't possibly make a difference, and this is from someone with $170 spark plug wires and $70 MSD coil...

cheers,

Matt...would you be able to verify something I've experienced?

When I had the VGS hooked up, cruising at a steady 75mph 6th gear showed an unGodly 250+ F preintercooler temp After reverting back to standard plumbing, the temp dropped to 150F area. I vaguely remember someone in the past mentioning this phenomena...what's going on?

Not joking.

My car was night and day different. I think my OEM plug wires are possibly faulty. How/why, I dunno, I am not super smart about engines and cars like many people on this site (which is why I read this site).

I am very conservative about what I do on my car with a limited mod budget. Read all the snake oil comments and threads I could find about plug wires, then found some Kingsborn really cheap, and thought...'worst case they will look cool under the hood'. Why looking cool under the hood means anything...I dunno again...

Also, the VGS sees full SC boost, so make sure that the fittings are tight enough to not come off. I was paranoid and wiretied them after I did the mod.

Matt
Yes, the IC boots get a lot easier with practice. Fully agree with the 2nd comment as well. I just had the VGS hose pop off the "dog house" fitting on the bypass valve yesterday. I couldn't see any easy way to make it more secure. Ended up putting some rubber electrical tape around it.

Those IC boots are not easy. Kind of up and out was easy, going back on took patient persistence. If no one is around, talking to yourself helps.

I was shocked when I first saw this post, on another thread... So I removed the VGS off my car... And my car somehow feels better...

I still have DetroitTuned bypass valve...

Since I'm the only other person that posted data it's me against Sid Grrrr! Arrgh!

Seriously though I ran and tested it on some 108º heat index days.

I had to pound it hard to even get to 200º. Temps returned to normal quite nicely. Normal being 130ish on a flat cruise.

So until other people get off their collective duffs and test this we have a standoff.

I trust Sid and I trust me so it must be his car that's F'd up

I was the first one that put both the VGS and Ryphyx#2 (now called DT BPV). Looks like a few more are been added to the list from this thread. I have been running with the conbination for about 15k miles now. My Mini S 03 only has 25K, so most of its life. I have never had VGS only. I had DT BPV only and as Andy pointed out in the VGS thread, DT BPV does some funny things. The conbination smooth everything and is the best of both worlds, in my opinion.

Let us know what you think of VGS only first and then the combo setup.

No heat issues here either ( we don't have 108, had 103 though ). Could be the BPV is closed longer than our's ? The SC can produce some big heat if it's working hard.....

I also have the Shrick, so I figure I lost some vacuum with that, so perhaps this will help out a little more with initial bite.

I have only to start the car, but noticed it idled smoother. I will be out for a test a little later, when its below 85....

Ok, took a 10 mile drive...

From a dead stop, first gear is useless if you go anymore than 1/4 throttle.

Part throttle or stabbing it a low RPMs is where you feel the boost come on. With the mods I have, the car is a monster down low. Dont really notice anything above 4500.

I do notice if you life off in 1st-3rd and you are still going slow, you do feel the car buck since it still is getting air forced in but no fuel.

Overall I think its a nice change, and I can really see its benefits on the track!

Ok, after driving with it less than 24 hours, went back to stock and removed the VGS. It was too jerky on the street.

Maybe you can put the DT BPV by itself and then do both. In my experience, they both together are smoother. Low end is just great. No need to dig to first at the parking lot.

I plan on trying it both ways when the DT BPV comes in.

Keep me posted. I drove with the VGS for about 2 months and recently reverted back.... it's a much smoother car without the VGS. Now I'm thinking about a DT Bypass valve and I'll be interested to hear your experiences.

TIA,

Richard
