MillTech Installed....1st impressions

YUCCA PATROL....100% correct...MUCH easier than that stinkin patio set!!!

Helix shipped it DHL on Mon from the east coast and it was here (RENO) bright and early this am (Wed)....(I was charged only for ground delivery too!)
====================================
Just finished the Installation of the Milltech Exhaust on my 04 MCS. 1st of all. fitment was EXCELLENT! The only hitch was in the removal of the oem setup. The 2 Bolts that held the oem pipe to the Cat were frozen on solid! Took some heating with a torch (only to loosen them) to get them off! The oem hangers were a bit of a bear too...Have lots of penetrating oil available! A couple of bent pry bars help here also!

Damn...that oem thing was heavy !

The installation of the 3 Milltech pieces were a breeze. It came with BOTH hanger styles for the 2 iterations of the 2004 MCS which had been a concern even though Helix assured me it would fit....PERFECT FIT!!!

NOW my initial thoughts. I DID NOT WANT TO GET OUT OF THE CAR...EVER! I held my breath when starting....a nice PURR was instantly evident! Then on the road....it was a little louder than stock but VERY NICE sounding! Then it was rev time....No drone at all and the cabin remained quiet as before...I imagine I shed about 10-15 lbs and YES there is a noticable difference in the rpm midrange...

I think it may have been Randy who reviewed it...RIGHT ON THE $$$$

NO RICE ROCKET SOUND WHAT SO EVER!!!!

Glad I forked out the $$ and also glad I had a torch to free up those stubborn bolts!

The install was very easy.. and it lined up perfectly.. I love the sound too... Sounds very "sophisticated". Not rice at all. I did a lot of research before I ordered the Milltek... no regrets.. It's just about perfect..

Enjoy!

Nice to hear

I did the install this past Saturday and I had the same exact problem you had with the OEM bolts to the CAT. I could only get one out without too many issues. The second bolt actually sheared in half , scary stuff!!! No major problems though, we got it off and the rest of the installation went according to plan.

Couldn't agree more, the system is awesome

I changed the exhaust on my 06 MCS at around 3-4,000 miles and also had the sheared bolt at the cat issue. Started out with a few wrenches, ended up hitting it with the IR impact gun....bye bye!

Hard to imagine...

I just put 100 miles on the MCS...just driving around to feel/hear the Milltech...what a Hoot and a difference!!!

hard to believe it could get any better!!!! I like my MCS even more now and that is also hard to imagine. The only other mods I will do are suspension ...and only sway bars and front strut stiffner at that (on order)...I like to corner that beast! No pulley or CAI for me....will keep my warranty in tact just in case they get try to get funny!

As far as those 2 bolts go (on the oem pipe to cat) I was only able to avoid shearing them by using an Oxy Plumbers torch (got a decent shop at the house) to heat them up (Not even an impact wrench would budge them...a little heat and off they came...grudgingly at that too!!..... and that was after 1/2 can of that bolt lube/loosen stuff. I bet they hired THE HULK to put that puppy on!

I imagine the nose prints will increase though!!!! Passed some guy in a Rice wagon (Civic with a large noisy exhaust)...he was horrified!...Loved it!

Sounds like money well spent on the Exhaust.

Go for the rear sway first... there isn't much needed in the front, althougth I think the M7 USS looks like a nice thing to try.

I have the Milltek cat back, and it is great. I also had frozen bolts from rust build-up. It took a grinder to get one off. I soaked the bolts in penetrating oil for 48 hours before beginning work, and one finally came off, but the other didn't.

I tightened the frozen bolts with an impact—snaps 'em off easy!

Yeah, that may indeed work, but you get the best special effects from using the grinder. Nothing like being showered with white hot metal sparks while lying on your back, underneath your MINI. The smell is perhaps the best part. 1 part ozone, 1 part smoke, 1 part metal, 2 parts burning hair.

That's Funny

Especiacially the special effects part (NOT...must hurt)

I soaked mine in penetrating oil for 24 hrs 1st too and continued in the fruitless persuit...NO-WAY...But when I heated them with the Mapp gas torch....slowly they broke free and came off intact too!!!! OW my arms hurt...as I said...It was the Hulk that put em on with 1000lbs of torque!

BUT IT WAS WORTH IT...HAPPY AS A CLAM! New exhaust smell is burned off too....even that was not too bad!

Next step would have been to use the impact wrench to overtightem them thus sheering them...asd the other poster did...that was the ONLY pain with the Miltech install...and it was NOT Milltec's pain!

I'm about to install a Milltech catback on my early 04 S. I have just a couple of questions. Would this installation be easier on a lift? Does anyone have instructions (with or without pictures) that are better then the ones that came in the box? How nice was the finish on all of the pieces of the milltech? -Thanks

Try Way Motorsports and talk to Waylen. He's a vendor here on NAM. Gave me a great price before I found a used one.

However, I believe prices on the Milltek have recently gone up...

Ditto that one, especially when you add a header...
