Anyone tried this on board diagonistic? DASHDYNO SPD

http://www.auterraweb.com/index.html

I am after one of such devices for my R56 MCS because i want to monitor my water temp. Hacking into my wiring to mount a DEFI is no something i am prepared to do.

So far there are 3 of such devices available.

1) DashHawk
2) ScanGauge 2
3) DashDyno SPD

I have read that the DashHawk doesn't work with the R56 MCS and the ScanGauge does.

So i am wondering if this DashDyno SPD works!

And feedback would be great

I know scanguage works, but runs on OBD2 and the MINI runs on CAN, Although it works i wonder when a new version comes out that fully works with a CAN gate, how much more data can be gathered. The codes for service will need a CAN tool

There's _tons_ more than 3 devices that can display water temp from the OBDII port. AutoXray brand scan tools can display them, and they've supported CAN from the beginning. Actron Manufacturing also makes scan tools that allow live monitoring of data on CAN diagnostics. Both AutoXray and Actron are hand tools, not laptop tools. Not sure exactly what you're looking for ...

I've attached a shot of my AutoXray EZ-Scan displaying water temp (engine's not running).

Cheers,
Jeff

www.dashdaq.com is something that has been intriguing me lately. Anyone thought of trying one of these out, in spite of their higher cost?

I was seriously considering the DashDaq II after seeing reviews at SEMA this year but being an IT geek I was really bothered by the system specs combined with the cost...

I decided to go another route, and ordered one of these... paid under 1000.00

Combined with http://www.autoenginuity.com/ interface and software.

Keep adding onto it...
Add a 40.00 Bluetooth GPS puck and software you now have NAV.
3 Axis Accelerometer....GTech
Data Logger and MoTeC software...
Video recording and analysis for track days...

Possibilites are pretty much endless, and being that it runs Windows we are far more likely to find software and addons that will do what you want it to do... linux is great in principal but I don't see a huge group of "Linux geeks" jumping out there to start writing free software modules for a niche market/device.

And before everyone starts screaming about the price, consider the flexibility.

Sorry to go so off topic

Everything I have heard about the Auterra products have been most positive and looks like it might be another great addition instead of the one from autoenguniety.

I like the idea of the DashDAQ. I know it's a bit pricey, but it seems to be the most user friendly and customizable system there is available.

I have an Apple Ipod Touch running Palmer Performance Dash Command,

http://www.palmerperformance.com/pro...hone/index.php

It is connected to a wifi ODBII cable, http://www.plxkiwi.com/kiwiwifi/hardware.html

Works pretty well, and you can even read and clear codes. Of course you can't use it to reprogram features, like the sunroof autoopen...
