It depends on how you wire it, but I have mine so it is white w/ my headlights off, and red w/ my headlights on. The directions are very clear as to what wire goes where for desired light settings. The light comes on automatically when the car is turned on.

As for max boost I've peaked just past 15psi with just the Alta CAI/ Turbo Inlet Hose. I wouldn't want to push it much past 20psi.

I had the SA tell me how awesome my gauge was when I had the car in for service earlier this week! That was reassuring because I was a little weary about tapping wires and voiding the warranty. He actually raved about my new rims and mirrors too . Said it was one of the best he's seen!

wow, just got done getting the wire in through the car....and let me say, alta, love you guys (maybe gals) but those instructions pretty much sucked.

they just told you what to remove in what order, and not knowing ANYTHING, wasnt that simple. the air intake box took me 5 minutes of just staring at it to realize you needed to twist it to take it off from that second hose. and taking off the cowl...i tried like someone said to not remove it all the way..(dont know how you did that) but windshield wiper = pain haha realizing you need to pull the black strip, which the rubber weather protection buffer sits on, toward you to unclip all the clips took a little bit to figure out. Also the little filter piece that attached to the tubing...it never said to ever do that...i just saw from the original poster that he did that.

now i know most will laugh a little and think well how come you couldnt just figure that out...but i thought the directions would be a little more than , remove this remove that and bam. it was like putting together something from ikea, almost a puzzle in itself.

BUT. Love the product and tomorrow all of the instillation frustration will be forgotten.

Looks great, wish they were more functional/they made them for The R53 with Navi. Boost and Water Temp aren't high on my list of priorities on the track .

Is that actual boost or is that boost plus atmospheric pressure. I have the ScanGauge II and when I subtract out MAP (for me it's 12.7) I get more like 3-5 boost (I don't redline it but do kick it a bit).

Well, this is for the SCII but lists the approximate pressures for different altitudes. I live at 4000 feet so I use 12.7. You can go to [URL="https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128221"]

Water temp and boost gauge backordered through Alta Friday.

Should be on the way in a week or so!

Thanks everyone for the posts. Should make the job that much easier. So now, my spring-summer first mod session will consist of :Alta Boost Tubes, Alta Turbo Intake Tube, Alta Intercooler and Alta Gauges. Fun, fun.

I am seeing ~180. It climbs to 195 if I sit for a while or stop and go.

Hmmmm. My Stewart Warner is reading 220-230 in 50 degree weather around town. I wonder how I can calibrate it? Any thoughts? It is an electric gauge with standard sender like the Alta system. What would be causing it to read high?

Very interesting question! I was just about to start a new thread on this before I scanned this thread.

My tuner just finished installing my ALTA Water Temp gauge and it pretty much hovers around 180 when the car is pretty warmed up. However, i have been monitoring my WT via the ScanGuage II for the past few weeks and when it is warmed pretty good as well, it reads about 220 +/-

So I have been both water temperature readings all day lonf and pretty much the ALTA prosport gauge reads about 40 degrees lower than the ScanGauge OBDII reading.

180 degrees (ALTA) VS 220 degrees (SCANGAUGE)

Anyone monitoring both gauges at the same time???

I am getting about 220 +/- as well on the Stewart Warner, which is the same gauge maker as the R53 stock gauge pods.

Mine (Alta Gauge) heats up to a max of about 215 but usually stays under 200.

I see about 220-225 with a Scangauge II. If the car's sensor is in the block some where, it could be reasonable to see a difference in water temp with the coolant tank sensor. What is the water path for the car? Does it pass through the coolant tank after going through the radiator or before?

The tank is before the radiator. My tank readings are equivalent with the scan gauge, which is good, I guess. But my gauge only goes up to 260 so I don't have much warning room if there is a problem.

I'm about to install my gauges as I have a 4-day weekend with some projected dry weather ahead.

The drilling into the coolant resivoir bothers me a bit though. I would rather tap into a radiator hose via an adaptor. Can anyone tell me the MINI radiator hose diameter?

I'm thinking somthing like this:
