in some cars if you tap the turn signal lever the indicator works for three cycles and self cancels can this be done on our cars?

If this is a serious question, at least on '07 on up, you can set your turn signal indicator to flash once or 3 times. It it is referred to as "triple turn signal" activation in the manual. I hit my signal to lane change, it flashes 3 times and then deactivates.

I'm pretty sure the Gen 1 has an actual switch, whereas the Gen 2 is electronic (thus the choice between 1 & 3). So AFAIK, we can't get the 'flash 3 option.

Try adding something like this (just something I found with a google search)...

http://www.kahtec.com/lane_changer.htm

The last time I was in Germany, I had a rental car (it was a SEAT or a Skoda...I don't remember now)....it had the three blink feature. I believe it had a regular old turn signal switch in the column since it clicked up and down like my VW Golf did here at home. Just guessing that the 3-blink feature was done by the flasher module in the dash with some sort of circuitry.

I think this product might work on a MINI. Here's the diagram on the website:

The connections will be different on a MINI because of its wiring configuration. The product performs the function for 2 turn signal circuits. However a MINI has 4 turn circuits (or 6 including the fender side indicators) because each turn bulb has its own separate circuit from the BC1 computer. So you would need 2 of these units (or 3 including fender side indicators). You'll also want to add diodes to prevent the unit's signals from feeding back to the BC1.

There must be a way to program this into the earlier cars as well. First of all, I'm sure the European-market cars all had this. Also, it's very subtle, but you may have noticed that the early MINI turn signals is actually NOT a "dumb" system: Even though it only flashes once, it will go through a whole single-flash "cycle", no matter how briefly you press the lever. (A "dumb" system would flash for a small fraction of a second, if the lever was pressed for that same small fraction of a second.) This leads me to believe that a triple flash could easily be programmed into our cars........Problem is, nobody seems to know how...

The euro cars do not have this..........
Why not just hold the stalk with your hand and count 3 flashes?
