Osram Nightbreaker bulbs mini review
I have the regular Halogen bulbs in my 06, and I've been wanting to try different bulbs for sometime now. I realize the most popular choice is the 65W recommendation from daniel stern, but me being a cheap *** I didn't want to pay so much for my bulbs.
I searched around the net a bit and found the next best alternatives are the "+50%" bulbs and the like, and found a decent deal on the Osram Nightbreaker +90% bulbs, and after seeing some before and after pics on a few car forums decided to go for them.
I got the bulbs from www.powerbulbs.com
They currently are on sale for 19 pounds, free shipping, and come with a free set of w5w bulbs to match your headlights (they fit in the front parking lights). There is also a 10% coupon ZXRCX111. Powerbulbs currently has a sale on the comparable philips X-treme power H7's (currently on sale for 19.99 pounds, they were a bit more when I made my purchase), said to be +80% and from pics I believe to be a more natural color compared to the nightbreakers, which are a little more white/blue in color. The bulbs shipped relatively fast from the UK, I ordered on a Tuesday and they came on Friday.
I have to say that the Nightbreakers were worth the $25 or so I spent on them, the light is whiter, somewhat brighter, and even the parking lights that came free with the bulbs are whiter and match the headlights. I wouldn't say the brightness difference is like night and day, I did reaim my headlights a little further and this has helped a lot in terms of brightness. You can definitely tell it's brighter though.
Sorry for the bad pics, the oem lights are the drivers side and the Osram and newer parking light bulbs are on the passenger side. I don't think the pics show much of the difference, looking at them in person the Osram is a much whiter light. The Osrams also came in a pretty cool package, not significant but it was so cool I had to mention it. I've read on the internet that these bulbs have a shorter life than the 65W bulbs, and less output. I think for 25 bucks though, you can't go wrong with these, I'm quite satisfied with the purchase.
