Calculating fuel economy

I want to know how my car, a 2005 MCS, calculates the current and average fuel consumption.

Reason for this is that if i take my car for a custom tune, will the car show differances in fuel economy. thus say for larger injectors, does the car take that into consideration.

it must be electrical, thats why i posted here.

I've been wondering the same thing, but for different reasons. on the road, it won't go from 24.4 to 24.5, 24.6.... It goes from 24.4 to like 24.9. What happened to 24.5,6,7 and 8? So how does it decide when to update you on the mileage? Anyway, I hope someone on here knows how this thingy works. (oh and I'm geting more than 24, it was just an example).
