Potentially serious wire harness problem... need help.

This glitch has been intermittent until last week - it is now permanent. No gas guage, no odometer, no speedometer, no ABS, no traction control and voltage to all systems, including the motor is off by about 30% according to the tech.

I will post the codes if you like...but according to mini the problem is a broken wire between the DME and DSC modules. This will get very expensive...they would not tell me where to begin to look.

Any guidance here is most welcome!

The codes would be helpful. Do you have anything done to the car aftermarket (wiring related that could short, say driving lights)?

An 05 is now a 4 year old car, is it the original battery?

If you own a multimeter, it would be pretty easy to test your connections, but I'd first test the battery. If the tech is claiming 30% loss, and all systems are failing, it makes sense. the systems are built to run on a constant voltage, if that's not supplied they will fail. I'd check that first, could be as quick and easy as a new battery. keep us informed

...I found the culprit. When mini change the alternator and SC belt they removed the wheel speed sensor from two brackets and never reinstalled it. It rubbed on the cranckshaft pulley...this wore away the insulation exposing the copper wire and bingo, a short.

But no fuse blew...I replaced the wheel speed sensor wire, removed the battery connections - hope this would reset the system - but nothing.

Thoughts?
