Need To Find A Headlight-Activated Power Source

I need to connect an aftermarket gauge to a wire that is powered when I turn on the headlights. When the wire senses current, it dims the gauge for night time driving.

Does anyone know of such a beast?

Thanks in advance.

You can use the illumination line that lights the switches, buttons and gauges when you turn on the lights. It is a red/gray striped wire in the harnesses. You can find it in the connectors to the tach, speedo, radio, toggle switches, a/c controls, etc.

The wire is gray with a red tracer.

The problem that I had with using the gray/red wire was that it dimmed my gauge too much. I ended up using a wire for the parking lights.

quikmni, I've heard this a lot that the gauge was too dim, I used the grey/red wire coming out of my seat heater and it is plenty bright. dunno what to say, but you can always throw a potentiometer inline to dim the gauge to your liking if you've hard wired it.

Darren, if you look behind the tach, or by the cig lighter, the grey wire with red tracer should do the trick. This is covered even in the sticky on installing the boost gauge.
