UltraGauge - Any real world info?
Anyone have experience with one of these yet?

It looks interesting and much less than a ScanGuageII. I have SGII in both of my primary cars now but am always looking for more toys.

My friend has one on his Subaru, I just saw it this past weekend. Less slick than a more expensive gauge, but the price can't be beat. I'm thinking about getting one for the Mini myself. Even if you buy it just to read and clear engine codes, it's worth it. You ever check the price of code scanners in the auto parts stores?

Looks very interesting. Here's some info I found comparing it to the Scan Gauge http://www.gassavers.org/showthread.php?t=12565
Some good photos too. Too bad this unit has the control buttons in the back.

so i got mine in today ... its really really nice, its much better esthetically then the SCII. it recognizes about 33 gauges i believe.
first thing i did was check to see if i could see manifold psi.. it works but obviously there is a factor to play in when your trying to figure out the boost your making. 14.5 is 0 on a boost gauge. if the UG says 25psi that means your really pushing about 10.5psi... its not hard to figure out just takes some time to get used to. my car read 14.5 psi with the car key in the off position so i know its accurate. UG is going to be updating there firmware soon to allow custom codes and commands so i dont see an issue with getting this thing to be a regular boost gauge in the future.
what i dont get is how they can sell this thing for so cheap... it comes with a very nice window mount and everything!
im thinking about mounting it infront of the tach because its so small and wont really get in the way. and it will help saying i have an 02 and cant have my speed show up on the tach :(
ill do a more in depth write up on it when i have played around with it more

I WANT ONE!
Unfortunately my MINI has metric gauges and according to the site:
Non USA Customers: UltraGauge does not currently support Metric units
Is that because the unit does not understand the data coming from the OBDII connector or because it simply does not display info in Metric but displays it on Imperial units?
I don't mind getting Imperial readouts, actually that would be awesome since I live in the Mexico/USA border and travel a lot to the States with my MINI and I would love to see MPG, MPH and such instead of Kilometers per hour.
I will contact the vendor but what do you guys think?
Thanks!

Too bad I waited... They're sold out until 2nd week of March... :(
I'm thinking of getting an OBDII Bluetooth adapter instead and use Torque app on my Android phone.
Seems to be really nice and robust!

RayanMX

Beware I sent mine back because it drained my battery and gave me a check engine light. I worked with tech support for about two weeks and then gave up. I wrote a thread about it. There were others with the same problem. Hopefully they will get it fixed. Seemed like a great little gauge.

For some reason the UG only has the battery drain issue on the 2006-2011 models.

I have a late build 09 S and I just installed the Ultra Gauge EM, it has the metric & other extra gauges. It now has a boost gauge and can display 8 parameters on screen.
I've known about the batt drain issue but for the price of just a code reader, i took a chance. was planning on just unplugging it at the end of the day, just to be safe. i didn't remove it after 3 hours and the car starts (no deat batt, whew!).
However, if it is left plugged in and i start the car, i get a symbol on the tach. MINI on a lift, nothing else on the dash lights or the OBC. no codes on the Ultra Gauge either. The car drives fine, no problems otherwise. tried it a few times and same thing.
For now, i have to make sure to plug it in only after ignition on or starting the car. I'll somehow have to fashion a switch to power it on/off at pin 16 (12V of OBD), the OBD port on the car is too low to hook up a switched OBD port and the Gauge.
