R52 Unichip

Considering adding a Unichip to my 2005 R52. This is mostly stock, I've only added a JCW CAI to the mix. Anyone added a chipto their R52? What are the Pros and Cons?

Biggest thing with a R52 is is it an S..so it has the same mechanicals as a R53, or a non-s, so the same as a R50?

Amusing it is an "s", then many folks have used uni-chips...with..er...varied results.
Some have loved them, some have said no change, some have said it fried their computer.
Officially the UNI-chip is an orphan...it is out of production for the r53..but it is still possible to get them programmed.
Most folks have moved onto dyno tunes...much better in many ways!!
But to each his own...UNI-CHIPS are what old school folks call piggybacking....it was invented to be used before the computer that controls the motor was hacked....it works by tricking the computer into seeing some values that are not true...
But since the computer for the mini was hacked...the need to do it that way, and the limits that come from it, are no longer needed.

I bought a UniChimp supposedly tuned for what my car had. JCW intake, JCW exhaust & 15% pulley. I took it off within a week. All it gave me was detonation & check engine lights. I sold it & the fellow who bought it has similar results.

Like Zippy said a real tune is the way to go.

Don't get a unichip, we nicknamed it the useless chip.

Do some reading here on NAM and you'll find a bunch on why not to use it. Every time I have a car at the dyno with a Unichip we gain power when we put the car back to the stock ECU.
