Adding XM to a 2005 R53?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to add XM to a cooper that doesn't currently have it? I was thinking along the lines of finding a used OEM radio that came with that feature....however, I'm unsure of anything about this as an option.

I know I can do aftermarket, and will fall back on that as the last option if need be.

Look forward to your suggestions.

Thanks

Not sure if you need to program to get it to work properly...but I know you'd at least need the receiver and the OEM radio unit.

You can get xm thru the oem radio....
Blitzsafe makes a module you can plug the xm reciever into...in the trunk..into the wiring harmess where the cd changer/oem siruis reciever would go...the right side storage area...the simply fish the anteana wire to where the the rubber thiggny is where the wiring goes into the hatch....stick the magnetic mount antana behind the oem....the trunk can open fine...and good to go. Functionly the same as an oem install....about $200 depending on rebates.
the blitz-safe adaptor is the important part...it is car specfic...do not get the genaric one if ypu want the mini oem funactuality.

The oem reciever was $$$$ and pretty rare...most folks just used the blitzsafe for the same functiolity....even get sation names, and song names on the radio display.

Oh nice! Great info and I do appreciate it! Ha, I would've gone the hard way of tracking down all the OEM stuff. I can assume that it would be a PIA.

All mini's by 2005 had a cd changer/satalite prewire....in the right side (pax side) trunk side pannel...there is a wire bundle...often taped and hard to reach....this is where the cd/wire bundle is hidden. The blitzsafe adaptor pugs into that than the xm reciver into that...only need to run a anteanna wire. About a 15min job.
Blitzsafe made 2 models for the mini...
one had a plug so it could be used in the furure or with a cd changer, (+20 or so) and a single input that could not have the cd change installed once used.
a few threads around..mostly older...google site serch might be best to dig them up.

Realoem.com
a great way to get the partnumbers...or just call the local mini parts guy.
normally you would put you vin# or production date in, then look up each system/subsystem of the car...diagrams, skematics, part numbers and even (not always the street price) pricing.

Something I do, instead if adding a tuner, etc - if you have the iPod cable in the glove box, get the SiriusXM app on your phone and then get the 'desktop' subscription. You can listen in the car, at home, or anywhere you take your phone. I did it for my dad and he loves that.

Just a simple 'no tools' option.

For my car, I'll probably swap out my existing Alpine for an Alpine CDE124SXM with built in tuner.
