Swap a 2005 ignitor into a 2003?
I've searched on here and google but come up empty...
Has anyone swapped out their 2003 HID ignitor for a 2005-6 version? (post facelift)
The Benefit would be that next time my ignitor goes out I don't have to tear into the assembly to replace it since it is external.
The Ballast is the same from 2002-2006. Both ignitors have 3 wires going into them. The only difference between the bulbs is a notch and the shield, so that would work fine. (http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/show...ips-light-bulb)
Potential problems I see:
If someone can get a pic of the physical and electric connectors on the 2005-6 ignitor I'd really appreciate it. Here is a good pic of the 2003 connector from Amazon:

- The way the ignitor screws into the assembly could be different and may not fit on my 2003
- The electric connectors are different size/shape

Have heard of folks using salvaged Mercedes Benz ignitors too...
I bet if the parts and connectors can be made to fit, it should work...
Not sure WHY you are having them fail..they SHOULD LAST several bulbs, and a quality xenon bulb has a life over 100,000 miles...turning them on/off is what causes wear in the bulbs...the gap where the arc occurs gradually gets bigger, till the current cannot jump, causing the arc, that makes the light...

I'm not sure either, but with 97K on the odometer I'm on my original bulbs and the passenger side ignitor is bad... This seems to be a fairly common problem with the pre-facelift HIDs.

63126919886 from 7/2004+ Xenon lights , realoem.com is not correct all the time.
http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/63126919886/ES2673996/
Pre 7/2004 has this.
Can you get the part number off the box on the wired ignitor for me ? Like 1 307 329 ...etc
I will try to track it down because realoem does not show it. Or it you can find the Genuine MINI part number on it 11 digit.

Thanks

Well, judging from the pictures at ecstunning it looks like the electrical connection is different (not a big deal) and the mechanical connector is different (probably a deal killer...)
I don't have a box with a partnumber for the 2003 ignitor, but my research has lead me to believe it is:
1 307 329 059

is the 1 307 329 080 version which shows some cross reference. Worth a shot. Let me know.
