Interesting new LED headlight alternative at ECS!

Anyone else see this? I received an email from ECS today. It is an aftermarket product from a company called Spyder, and is available in halogen and xenon retrofit versions. I don't think I would consider changing from my WORKING xenon lamps as I think light output and the "spread" of light would be considerably less. This is something I would definitely consider if my headlights went out. Price is currently $449/pair! Is that really correct? Very nice looking!

Yes we have them and I have been ruining them for a while now. Very close to OEM quality. Very clear and bright with the factory HID bulb and ballast installed on the HID kit.

I have factory blackout HID Xenons and went to these. Big improvement in looks and the cutoff pattern is more euro, so the pattern of light is better then the US spec. I really like them. The HID ones also use the factory washer jest from your old HID , so those will still work with the HID kit.

What bulbs are you using for the fog lights? I have the factory adaptive HID lights but it does not match the yellowish light from the fog lamps.

Spyder made a brand called sonar for the 1st gen. They were wicked cool. The problems I had were when it was humid or wet out, condensation would build up on the inner lens, and you couldnt see the drl during the day.

I cant say anything toward these though. They could be different.

The Ziza positions light leds ( upper position of the fog ) match the Spyder DRL LED headlight rings and the Xenons .

The Fog lights in platinum White H8 bulbs match the Ziza LEDs and xenons , also in that thread.

I have ran the new R56-R59 Spyder headlights for some time now in heavy rain and in multiple hot and cold temps. No ,moisture build up or anything, they are very close to the OEM design in fit and finish.

One more thing they are direct halogen to halogen headlights and Xenon to Xenon headlights upgrade. One of the first I have seen with MINI. Xenon kit shares the genuine parts ( ballast, bulb/ ignitor ) pretty cool set up. Halogen on has all the parts installed.

Hello,
It would have to be coded by MINI or through an NCS expert type of coding software / computer , then you would have to get Xenon HID set liked above ( not the halogen version ) the ballast 63117356250 x 2 , and DS1 bulb & ingnitor. One for each headlight. Then install.

Thanks

You are w welcome.

Nope , you have to convert to the 9/2009+ parts on the pre 9/2009 cars I heard its a little more involved to code to Xenon , but can be done. MINI dealerships can do the 9/2009+ , some shops with NCS type software can code those early ones also.

No, even the factory black Xenons or anthracite retrofit Xenons are non adaptive ( turn to the left or right with wheel ).

Xenon on factory non-xenon R56

For anyone who is interested in having the full 35W xenon on a factory non-xenon MINI:
I have a 2008 S R56, which many places say will not work with even the upgrade retrofit xenon (I've seen 2009+). But they work even with the 35W as I explain below
I purchased the "retrofit" xenon kit that MINI makes from ECS, installed them, and they worked except they flickered. I took them to the dealer to be coded, and after the coding was done they worked.
A year later, I saw the new spyder led headlights and wanted to update the look of my MINI. I bought the xenon spyders from ECS. I then purchased the bmw ballasts off of ebay (# 63117356250) along with some Philips Osram 6000K Ultinon D1S XenStart HID XENON BULBS 85410WX 35W.
Plugged everything in and tada! Nothing worked but the turn signals
The parts sat for about 6 months till I got the time to fool around with it to make it work. I'm surprised, as it took me less than 30 minutes to figure it out. I used a multimeter and found that the non-xenon stock headlight plug isn't a direct fit for the spyder xenon plug (guess that's not too surprising). But I only had to move one wire to make it work. Since the turn signals were working, I knew they were getting power and were grounded. It turns out the headlights were not lined up with the ground. I cut the headlight ground wire, soldered it to the turn signal ground wire, and they work
I then installed the factory retrofit led foglight kit from mini. Turns out I didn't have to tap into any of the new wires from the foglight kit to make the drls in the headlights work. The only thing I have left to figure out is the high beam, but I believe MINIs just use a shutter to switch between high and low, and that is probably the one brown wire in the headlight that I didn't connect--will figure it out shortly when I have more time.
As you can see from the pics, everything works and I now have 35W osram xenon on my MINI that was halogen from the factory
