Electrical Guru's
Hi,
So we run an endurance race car, and over the last few months have been upgrading a few things, and the one job I entrusted to others at work was to remove the wiring loom, and strip out anything that was not physically connected to anything else. There were a lot of plugs etc just not plugged in to anything at all, ie heater box which has been removed, door stuff as we run lexan etc... And I am assured that this is what has been done.
However - upon power up, engine runs perfectly, but the two dash clocks do not. Also, the wiper is constantly running, and the lights are on, with no response from the column stalks.
Now, looking at it, I'm expecting it to be a can bus issue, this is why we usually rip out and do a complete rewire and standalone ecu, and simplify the remaining electricals.
So - I am looking at a couple of options.
Replace the loom completely.
Bin the bus system, stalks, etc and do an old school wiring setup for lighting wipers etc (as we only need rear sidelights and brake, front lights main and beam, and wipers)
MY question is, if we do bin all of that off, does it harm any other system, as I know the engine has a "no contact with dash" fault... I'd like to retain ABS and traction for example.
Anybody have any thoughts?
I have continuity on the bus (yellow and the orange/green) between the footwell module and the central electrics.
I cannot for the life of me get the online wiring diags to work, and am considering buying a bentley manual, if it has decent wiring diagrams - does it?
TIA
Matt
