2005 Rear Fog Brake light Kit

I thought I saw one of the vendors offering a kit for a "4th brake light" to go in place of the fog light insert in the rear bumper. Does this ring a bell with anyone? I can't seem to find it.

Or, does anyone know if I could do this just ordering specific parts from the dealer? I have a 8/05 build MCS. If so, what would I need?

Thanks,

John

The vendor is MyMiniParts.com.

You can make it an extra brake light: http://myminiparts.com/proddetail.php?prod=MMBLK
or an extra backup light: http://myminiparts.com/proddetail.php?prod=MMBUL

How easy is it to install the rear brake light kit?

Hello,

Is this a 'plug and play' type of installation? Do I need to splice the factory wiring?

Thanks in advance,

I've ordered mine and it won't be available to ship until tomorrow. I should have it by the weekend and I'll give it a go then. The description on the website seems to imply that it is plug and play....

It does not splice the factory wiring, it is a jumper between two wires in the harness.

BT,DT. It's a 20-minute install.

Beware that the supplied directions may not be correct for a late `05 build, unless he changed them in the last two weeks. I used the third backup light option.

The issue is that the wires running to the factory installed wiring and plug at the light are described as being in a 2-wire separate bundle. In fact, on my August`05 build MCS, the brown/yellow wire to the light was contained in a six-wire bundle with three grey wires.

Call him before starting, to check on the directions. Also, I strongly suggest verifying that the supplied circuit tester is functional. Check it across the battery before depending on it being functional...

OldRick,

Thanks for the update on the later 2005 build I will add it to the directions. Did you by chance take a photo of it so I could add it to the instructions?

I have added information about the additional wires and also thanks for the feedback on the test light. I ordered in bulk and did not think about testing them. I have tested all the remaining testers and have found another bad one. Sorry if it caused you any problems.

Thanks,
