Heej, I recognise this picture! Its of Dutch member here on this site.
He studies on the same school as I (yes, we 're both Dutch) and I've drove with his MINI. That button is very cool. It isn't possible anymore to start with the key, I think that is very good. You 've to turn the key one 'click' and then put on the button.
I'll tell him of this topic so he can explain something more of his MINI.
Other cars that have them are the Mercedes S-Class and the McLaren SLR. The buttons on those cars are on the top of the gear lever. My mom's Acura RL has a key fob, but the ignition is just a **** that you turn. To unlock the car, you just touch the back of the handle
Theres a really nice kit on ebay that uses the S2k button, comes with a plug that matches the s2k factory one on the button itself and a relay and some wire for like $60 bucks.
Appearantly, this is a dealor accessory as Keram Mini in Maastricht will put one on my new Mini. Unfortunately, no discounts, so it'll be ~$215 for parts and another ~$105 for an hours installation (converting from Euros). Can anyone definitely say that the position 3 of the ignition switch is disabled, co-enabled or what? Will position 2 work still. Cheers!
Someone on this thread, or a related one, said they'd like to see an engine start button in the top of the shift ****, under a cover. Well I saw them today at Pepboys. $30, Pilot Motorsports or something. Don't like the style at all, they look like a cheap "piston" style shifter. Not that bad, but way too tall for a MINI. They did have a lid on the top that flipped up to reveal an engine start button!
