Oil Pressure Idiot Light Sender Thread Size?

I would like to install my ProMini Instrument Console (Oil Pressure and Boost Gauges) on my 2006 MCS but I do not have and need to obtain an adapter to connect both the Oil Pressure Sender and Oil Pressure Idiot Light Sender at the orignal idiot light sender location. The adapter that came with the guages was left on my old Mini because it was too difficult to remove.

Does someone know the thread diameter and pitch of the Oil Pressure Idiot Light sender. The sender is a pain to reach so I did not want to have to remove and reinstall the idiot light sender just to determine the thread diameter and pitch. I had previously emailed ProMini with the question but I got no response. I have the oil pressure sender so I can determine it's thread diameter and pitch. I just need to know the thread diameter and pitch of the stock oil pressure idiot light sender.

Hmmm. I want to say it's 3/8 inch NPT. I picked up the T adapter at Home Depot Motorsports and threaded it right into the spot on the oil filter housing. Hope that helps....

My oil pressure sender is 1/8" NPT (about 0.4" OD and 27 TPI). Sounds like the Mini sender hole at the oil filter housing might also be 1/8" NPT. I just wanted to make sure that the threads on the Mini side were not metric. Looks like a 1/8" male x 1/8" female x 1/8" female tee adapter will work.

The stock OP sender is 3/8" pipe thread like AZMCS stated. You can either make your own, like me, or check Helix. I think they sell the adapter you need.

1/8" is way too small. Almost 99.9% certain it is 3/8ths

The NPT pipe sizing is a little confusing, at least to me.
1/8" NPT has a 0.405" outside diameter (OD) which is a little over 3/8".
3/8" NPT has a 0.675 OD which is over 5/8".
Based on everyone's comments it appears that the Idiot Light sender is 3/8" NPT and I know that Auto Meter Oil Pressure sender is 1/8" NPT. Since I want to keep the Idiot Light (3/8) and add Oil Pressure (1/8) it appeared that I needed a tee adapter with two different sizes, which is hard to find.

I again contacted ProMini and this time got a quick response that they did have the adapter in stock. I purchased the adapter from ProMini but it cost $50 which seemed very high but they said the cost was high because it was a specially made low production part.

Thanks to all of you that responded to help me.

Pipe is usually measured by it's inside diameter. That being said, the construction of the pipe and materials used determine the outside diameter of pipe. It's a very old system of measurements and standards. The thread sizing relates to the outside diameter of a pipe supposedly measured by it's inside diameter. In other words, the National (or Nominal) Pipe Taper (NPT) standard for threading pipe imposes a uniform outside diameter for threading pipe (and inside diameter for companion fittings) that relies on the long established Nominal Pipe Size standard.

Make sense?

Tubing, such as copper tubing used for plumbing, is measured by it's ouside diameter.

1/8" tubing is small. 1/8" pipe is comparitively huge.

It seems a little on the expensive, but this is what you will need to cleanly mount an oil fitting.

Anyone know if any thread sealant is needed and if so what kind? I hear teflon tape is a no-no.

Why no teflon tape? The yellow stuff is meant for fuels/oils.

Aren't NPT fittings slightly tapered so tape is not neccessary? I seem to remember hearing that from somewhere.

They are but the seal isn't completely trustworthy. If it was, there would be no need for teflon tape on plumbing, etc.

You could always save a few bucks and do it the way I did
