17% Pulley

Ornery,
Hi! I have had the 17% V.2 pulley for a wile now and I can tell you that's a big difference from the 15% Alta Pulley. The car is pulling hard in all the gears and the car is working great!! Go with the Alta V.2 17% you will not regret it. Henry

WP4, yup that was me askin about the 17% and appreciate your response. Another question for you: how much more pull is there in the lower end? Again, looking at those roundabouts...

Cheers!!

Hello!!
The pull in the lower end is great and to be able to use the extra torque you need to turn off the DSC. The car pulls hard in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear with the DSC off. I'm very happy with the 17% pulley and at this time my car is working 100% . I recommend the 17% pulley instead the 15% any time!!!

COOLANT TYPE?

Hello!!
Hey What type of coolant can I use in the Mini? Can I use any brand or have to be Mini specific? Henry

Any brand should be ok, it is the mixture that is important. You don't want to add straight coolant but rather mix with a little water to weaken it a bit. The guys at the auto shop shuld be able to help you.

You know, Will, I've had my eyes on the Alps for a while. A Mini Take the Alps run would be right up my alley.

PB, I've got a 15%, and I am thrilled with it. I'm coming to realize that, somewhere down the road is a remapping requirement, to get it all to work together just right. I've just done the pulley, so I'll hold off until after exhaust and air intake, but I am very happy with what I get from the 15%. I think Henry is the only one around who has had time with both the 15% and the 17% on his car.

And I can't say it enough -- if you want speed parts shipped to an APO, check in with Brad and Steve at www.customminishop.com Give them a call, talk through what you want, and the parts will probably be in your mailbox before you hang up.

And did we pick a date for the pulley party and for the Alps run?

Abu, thanks for the input. As for the remap, is that a general mod or is there some reason (burning rich, lean, etc.), in your mind, that leans you thataway? As for the pulley party, I'm way in for this anytime 'cept for the month of August as I'll be back in the Land of the Big PX. I might just have to go to the mountain (Will) if necessary to do this!! Thats how amp'ed up for this I am.

Cheers!!

Hello to all!!
Put me in for the Alps run and for the Pulley party. I miss my Mini because I'm currently at Hohenfelds for the next 2 weeks TDY. For the tunning chip I got the Minipowerprog and it is working like charm! Now I got more horsepower and the Mini electronic speed limiter have been removed from 138 up :impatient to . . . 140... 15_... . Henry

MINIs take the Alps sounds like a plan!

As for the remap...

Think of it this way... You have a target that is only so wide and when you installed the new pulley, you are now off to the right of the center. The ECU, can adjust a little but is not really designed to handle radical changes to engine configuration. So, you remap to adjust the target position to better match your new configuration.

I run MTH and love the way the car feels now. It is much smoother with the update and pulls harder in the lower RPM's. You won't get the HP that MTH claims but if you go to Don Hollingshead WEB page (www.dmhmotorsports.net) you will see more realistic numbers.

Also, I have a USB cable if anyone is going this route and needs to borrow one.

Lastly, I have been arguing with people about MTH. My beef is not with the product, that part is awesome, but rather with customer service. That being said, if you decide to go the MTH route, I highly advise you to speak with Don. He takes great care of his customers.

+1 on daflake's MTH comments. Spot-on. I actually think most if not all of the HP gains from MTH are TOP END - increased redline. Extra RPMs up there buys you extra HP. And with an automatic tranny, I can't really access that, because the tranny will force an upshift at the "old" redline... but that's OK with me, because it IS SOOOOO much smoother to get there, whith no noticeable LOSS of power from the raw pulley, etc. And pulls better at low revs.

Hello all,

I would be interested on a pulley party and an Alps Run. Has anyone started kicking dates around? I have a Alta v2 15% pulley sitting in my back seat calling names right now. I have added the Alta CAI and exhaust so far.

I have the wife talked into getting another Mini. Once my liver, kidneys, one eye and the first two children sell on ebay, that Mini is mine.

Henry, the border is open BUT... You will need to stop at the first gas station and purchase a road ticket (probably can get at ADAC). The are pretty cheap... AND, you need to make sure that you are driving with your lights on as it is against the law to have them off now (all day long).

Marienbad maybe? I don't know the location of the flea market.

Two words for you, brother: United Airlines.

I'll even let you ride shotgun instead of sitting on the side of the autobahn!
