F55 Trunk Open Warning

I started getting this warning on ownership day3. I only unlock the driver's side door (verified in the setting) but apparently the trunk/ hatch gets unlocked as well for some reason. I have seen some threads with the same issue posted as early as 2014. Is this still a common problem? What is the resolution?

When I try to open the hatch without unlocking it first, the hatch does not open but I can move it up and down slightly. Is this normal?

Thanks in advance.

If you have comfort access then the hatch will always open if you have the key on you, regardless of whether the doors are unlocked or not.

The hatch should not, however, wiggle if you are not squeezing the handle. Open the hatch and give a close look at the latch on the gate and on the car to see if something is blocking it from shutting all the way. If it looks clear, I would schedule a service appointment right away.

Thanks seriuszero.

I do not have the comfort thing.

The hatch wiggles (a good term!) without squeezing the handle. It is not positively pulled and locked in. And there is nothing blocking the hatch to my eyes.

It sounds like another reason to take my 5 day old car in

I figured that I need to close the hatch gently with its own weight, from something like a foot above the bumper. It closes securely and repeatedly, and there is no more warning or wiggle.

Cheers

Someone had a piece of cloth getting in the jam.

Here's someone struggling to keep the hatch closed:

I drop the hatch from about 3" and have never had an issue with it not latching. There is no "wiggle" if I tug on the handle away from the button when closed. The only issue I ever had was I used to keep the fob in my pants pockets and when seated I would occasionally activate the hatch button between me and the seat.

Yea the weight at that height should close it well. People had this issue back in the day with the gen 1 MINI on how to get to a point on closing the hatch.

I still get the warning once in awhile but am learning how to. At least, I got two additional doors so I do not need to deal with the "sensitive hatch" when I want to throw my backpac in the car
