So I've read all 5 pages of this thread, and must have missed what the final cost for this upgrade would be. I've read through and caught something about ordering screws too. So I'll be looking for the screws, cover plate in carbon fiber "look", and the compartment. I would plan on holding driving gloves, and possibly some pens...maybe a detail brush. The glove box is maxed out right now.

Can I get the Black Chequered Cover for the SC?
Hi all - read through all of the thread and can't seem to find this answer. I have an '18 with the black chequered dash cover - which I really like. I'd love to possibly install the SC, but I'd prefer to still have the black check.
Everything I read in this thread talks about all the other colors, especially piano black - but I don't see any mention of Black Chequered that will fit the SC.
Is there a part or did that color come along after they removed the SC?
Thanks!

I have it on my 2015 F56-S. I was driving a loaner 2016 4-door today while my cars in the shop for maintenance and realized it didn't have the secret compartment! Really odd they would do away with it.
Come to think of it thought... in the year I've had my car, I've never once used it. It's too small to even store a iPhone 6 in. Guess it's just made to hide your drug stash.

Finally picked up my ECS tuning order. When first looking at it I thought it was broken as the lid would not lock. After looking at it carefully I a small spring and a cam that was at the end of the plastic slider. I pushed in the spring and moved the slider back ...it then would not close.... I then pushed it up and it lock the door and it could not open!!!
At that point it dawned on me that this cam or pendulum can sit in a neutral position and the door will open and close normally but it the door is closed and the pendulum moves it locks the door and you have to pull the whole thing apart to open it (take it out of the dash). Logic?
If the car receives a heavy impact in the front or back this would lock the door (hopefully) stopping the screwdriver you keep in there from flying out and then getting pushed into the passenger's chest with the air bag deployment.....or something like that!!

I had a problem with mine too. When I took it out of the box, and tried to test open it, it would not open. The inertia latch must have been trigger while the part was in transit.
The metal cam has to be in the center position (as shown in my pic below). One notch/position up or one notch/position down, and it locks. I had to use a small flat screw driver to move the piston/spring back away from the metal cam (compress the copper colored spring), with the metal cam now released manually rotate it to the center position, and then release the piston/spring.

ECS, Maybe do an ECS bundle when selling these parts:
Add 4 pieces 07149200041 to the hidden compartment covers.
Add 2 pieces 07149197038 to the hidden compartment box.
I ordered the 4 for the cover, forgot the screws for the box, stole them from the lower I-Panel covers for now!!

Just to add, the cover screws are 4mm x 12mm, which is close to a #8 x 1/2" screw. The box screws are 4mm x 16mm, which is close to a #8 x 5/8" screw.
