Any suggestion (attention graphic artists) that could suggest shape/design improvements? TBH, the slimmer cover look generic IMHO.

Cheers,
Please could you send your 3d files?

Any news?! I'm very interested in finding a way to slim down the keys...

hello all. finally getting around to replying. caught up with my neighbor on friday. bad news: he's not done. good news: he got started. instead of just scanning it and shaving the outside down, he's designing it from scratch. he truly feels that even scanning does not give it the proper dimensions and it will not fit nicely. he's also changing the inside sliding components. i asked him why and his response was something like this: "the OEM key fob is comprised of 3 pieces so it's designed a certain way to glue 3 pieces together. i'm designing it as one whole piece so some changes will be made"

ultimately, it will still lock in place like the OEM piece, but he is changing/strengthening the inside pieces. the only add'l 2 notes i have are:

- it will be very thin....VERY
- there will NOT be a mini logo on the side. reasons: 1) there's already a logo on the key fob, why add another...and 2) he feels given how slim it is, the logo will weaken it.

i'm not into turning this into a business, so i'm not going to offer options. the final product will be printed in black resin and nothing more. if you want it in red/blue/etc.... feel free to paint it yourself.

now, i don't want to sound rude, but i'm not going through all these pages to see who is interested. IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT THIS, please PM me so i can build up a count.

Cost: if this were something that 200 people wanted, i could offer this for less. truth is i don't know what a fair price is. what i can say is once i get a count for the amount of people interested, i can come up with a fair price. i would hope you all trust me. i'll reach out to other forums to see if it gauges interest.

hope this news works for some of you as something is actually happening now. i do have a sample image of what it looks like so far, but would rather not display until complete as i would not want someone to copy his work.

thank you,
Marco

Would you be willing to share the image via PM, so we can make a decision. As well as allow the opportunity to discuss price

i'm waiting for the inside locking pieces to be added then i'll ask him for a close to final draft. he's got my spare key so he's working at his leisure. i'm also not bugging him as he's got some other jobs he's working on (clearly more priority than a mini key fob..lol). but yes, i will pass along the final draft for a unanimous/majority vote.

quick update: i have received interest that would total 9 units being made (2 people which requested a pair). if you said you were interested but didn't specify 1 or 2, i will assume 1. if 2, please let me know.

interest does not mean you are committing, but at least it tells me that the cost i put to purchasing the resin (harder quality) and resin tray don't go to waste.

thanks all.

Marco

I wonder if one could put the mini's key fob guts into one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Smart-Card-R...-/331512866087

I don't have my 2016 F56 yet so I can't open the key fob to see the size of the innards, but might consider looking into this once I pick up the car.

not that i'm trying to defend what i'm designing, that seems a bit more troublesome. but feel free to give it a shot. interesting to see how that comes out.

That item in the ebay listing is still huge by comparison.

What MarcoPolo is helping fabricate just removes meaningless excess around the tightly packed guts of the current MINI circular fob.

See here for pics of the current fob taken apart.

Yes it's larger in some dimensions, but being only .2" thick, it's much much thinner than any other fob I've ever seen; meaning that it would lay nicer in pants pockets then most fobs. I'm not suggesting that MarcoPolo stop developing the cover though.

I wrapped mine in brushed titanium in the meantime... not perfect, but better than before and good enough for now.

I guess you lay it lengthways around the circumference, wrap around and slice?

The way we did it was take the side rounded part off the fob and roll it like a wheel onto the sticky part of the heated vinyl. Squeeze out any bubbles and then cut off the excess material. Slide it back onto the main part of the fob.
