Standard vs. Auto-dimming mirror

Anyone order the auto-dimming mirror? I've heard it's more like the R56 mirror. I'm not impressed with the standard one...

I have it and I notice no difference from the one I had on my R56. I'd say it's substantially similar. I didn't have the auto-dimming side mirrors on that though and I do like those.

Thanks, that's what I thought. Seems they are really nickel and dimeing this time around. You have to add the storage oackage and auto-dimming mirror to get similar to standard on R56.

Really missing the auto-dimming feature. IMHO missing it really cheapens the feel inside the MINI. Was really surprised by the lack of such.

agreed, and the method of adjusting the manual mirror is difficult at best. This is another one of those areas where I wonder if the wire harness is there you just need to buy the mirror....anyone know if you can swap this out like that?

There are different part numbers for the windshield with the various mirror options.

I got the auto dimming for just this reason as I was able to see it and a standard one before hand and it seemed odd compared to the one I had in my R56 which was the standard mirror there.

Auto Dimming

I have it but mine is a 2013 S Coupe. Nice for early morning drives in the dark but I am not sure it is a must have. Not much window real estate in the Coupe.

And on my other cars I have always had the garage door buttons on the mirror but that was not an option. Just depends on the model and year? And maybe how much it is worth in $$$.

Was able to pull info from garage door opener and order what I like off Amazon so I have a nice looking unit in the car. Easy and works fine.

I can tell the mirror auto dims, no complaints. Love the car - whats not to love it is a Mini. But I have not owned one prior so time will tell.

So the consensus is the auto-dimming mirror is better than the standard mirror in size and shape? I really don't care if it auto dims, I just really like my R56 mirror and would rather spend $250 on something like the storage package than a mirror upgrade!

Hate it. When active you can see headlights but nothing else so you won't know that if that car approaching from the rear has a bubblegum machine on the roof till they turn on the blue lights. :-(

I've got the Coupe too so no garage door opener. Mine has a clear gumball machine-looking dome hanging down from the center of the RV mirror. I presume that's the light sensor. My 2007 MCS didn't have that.
