We paid $2300 for our extended service plan on our CPO Clubman. I am 73 and just didn't feel like worry about maintenance. Personally I think they are sticking it to you. Go buy from a different dealer in the Bay Area you are not stuck with one over there might be a commute but my save you money.

Shop around as there are many companies that offer warranties. We found USAA to be the best. Also you don't have to buy it till the last day of the factory warranty. That way if you sell or trade it before the factory warranty is up it's no loss.

Search around the Mini Forum, the average
By Searching around the different Mini Forum
Standard Mini Cooper Extended Service Plan
The Average Negotiated Price that Customer made with the dealer on Extended Service is:
Between: $1500 to $2200
So, don't let the Dealer lie to you that paying $3,495 is the final price.
Make them go lower.
Hopefully other customers can chime in with their experience.

There is the extended service, which extends the covered scheduled maintenance to 6 years our 100k miles, I think. That's around $2200.
Then there is the extended warranty for around $3400.
Perhaps the OP really means the warranty and not the service plan.
In either case I agree that this is mostly snake oil. It's like at casinos, sure there are the occasional winners, but overall the house always wins.
Some like the "piece of mind", and you can't really put a dollar amount on that.
But they are not for me.

I wouldn't do 3rd party but through the dealer and backed by Mini I felt ok with it other wise no. Being older and the rep of the some of these cars I just felt better not having to crawl around under car fixing things. The CPO warranty doesn't go to 100K so the service plan goes to 75K by then I should be in a rest or won't give a damn much less know what a Mini is.

Thanks TBRoye, Dongood and Dityscarab.
Extended Maintenance Plan is not worth paying $3,495.00
Did further search on the Web:
Average Price Pay: $1,600.00 to $2,200.00 for Standard Mini Cooper and S.
Most Dishonest Dealership are trying to get $3,495 for the Extended Warranty Plan also, which is different from the Extended Service Plan.
Buyer Beware.

Hey they stick it to you on the Nav, why not the extended warranty? My MA knows me well, he never even mentioned it when I bought this car lol. btw we bought my wife a new Mazda 3 ten years ago. They cut the price of the extended in half and we still didn't buy.

Put in a bad review in Google reviews and see how they respond. Most car dealerships (even some Toyota dealerships I dealt with) were very fast to react and settle the issue to my satisfaction. So shop around for price which is reasonable (if you plan to get), leave a proper (but polite) review. They seem to give a number for dealership GM when they respond to review. Call that number when they respond and see what they offer.

They are prorated in some cases (usually third party). For Mercedes, they said if the warranty period hasn't kicked in and you are still under factory warranty, they will give full refund if you cancel or get rid of the car. After that its prorated. So I guess you have to know the terms of the warranty.
You should never get extended warranties at time of purchase. Always wait it out and see if you want to keep the car beyond factory warranty. If you do, then shop around in the last year of warranty.

I haven't done the math myself, but I've read that the basic 3/36 plan that comes with the car covers approximately $1300 worth of materials/labor. Paying $2200 to extend that to 6 years/100k miles doesn't sound too bad to me.

Recently bought a Lexus and dealer insisted on getting tire, wheel and windshield package. It was for my wife and she insisted too. I got it but when I read the limitations it said - hazards in road construction zones are not covered. Excuse me! Where do you think I will find nails lying around? With amount of highway construction going on thats like 70% of roads it won't cover. Canceled it within a week of purchase and got a full refund.

I doubt I'd pay $3495 for anything. I doubt I'd buy a car from a dealer that told me that's an absolute price too. I'd be more inclined to buy an extended service plan than an extended warranty but only if the numbers added up. It should be easy enough to get a list of what's included and then get the service department to price out the services and then do the arithmetic. If the total of the contract is no more than the individual items and it's refundable for the unused portion, if any, I'd buy it and then just drive in and drop the car ever time. Good luck with your decision.
