Disappointed

I love my Mini but am I the only person who thinks the car should have a panic button and chirp when you lock the doors as standard.

What does everyone else thing?

The bang-bang-bang of the locks isn't sufficiently comforting that one has indeed managed to successfully press the lock button, that you need the horn to blast too? I find it so laughable, especially in parking garages, when I hear the tell-tale horn blast.

I think the Minis sound like the BMW locking. I was looking at one in 2017 and he locked it, it sounded like a BMW. I went with another Mini on the lot. I just find it silly there there isn’t a panic button.

You need to pay extra for that.

Yes, I know that. I'm saying it should be at least standard for the noise and panic button. Alarm yes can be optional but this is my first car brand that didn't have the panic button. Just my opinion ....

I do find the lack of a audible "lock" notification on the Mini to be off putting. My 2017 BMW has a computer POST like "beep" when I lock the car. Not enough to disturb anyone sleeping in an apartment complex or neighboring home. Why Mini, (BMW lite) did not include this same feature escapes me. I have a 2019 Iconic level MCS (every available option except the Alarm) and the locks on the car are as silent as they were on my 2015 MCS.

Completely agree. I had a 2017 BMW 330i and on the 320i they didn’t make noise when locked. Just seems silly.

The “beep” heard when locking/unlocking the car is part of the alarm. If you don’t opt for the alarm option, no audible locking/unlocking sounds, unfortunately. Same with BMW’s.

That makes me happy actually, as I hate the beep... I just ordered a 2021 JCW without the alarm, so looks like I'm good to go there.

You do know we are not talking about the car horn "beep" right?

Correct, I assume you are talking about an alarm chirp, or beep/double beep like my wife's BMW X1. I haven't heard many cars in recent years that use the actual horn honk for confirmation.

Either way, I want none of it. I don't need to audibly announce to the world that I just locked my car... The lock actuators and a quick flash from the parking lights are enough for me.

I'm with you. I'm happy that my MINI makes no sounds (except the click of the locks) when it locks. I HATE the horn (most of the horns you hear in parking lots are from locks, which reduces the warning aspect of the horn); the chirp is eh, but I'd do without it.
The real thing that gets on my nerves is the all the alarms and warning from the backup camera! I tried turning off collision warning and it still beeps very loudly.

Yeah, I always hated to have to look back my my 2015 to see if the lights flashed on "lock. Bimmer" I hear the soft "beep" when I use the fob. Today I just realized that when I exit my M240i, if I touch the handle it locks the doors (just like the 2019 Mini does with the black button on the door handle) and no "beep".. Old dogs can learn new tricks. LOL

LOL I wonder how many months it's going to take for me to remember to press the black button on my new '21 JCW to lock/unlock vs. my current '17 X4 M40i where I just have to touch the inside handle to unlock and touch the top area to lock. I'm actually more upset MINI uses an actual button, vs not having a default lock beep... Those little buttons are so 2010! I got the optional piano black door handles to help hide the buttons!

I don't much care for the chirps. If you want assurance that you indeed locked the doors you can code the mirrors to fold up when locked.
