JCW brakes squealing now with "Cooler" weather, anyone else have this?

It just started to get cool here in Texas with like 50-60 degree weather and for some unknown reason my brakes are starting to squeal. Seems to happen a lot even after they heat up but I took it into Mini and they stated to me that the bigger brakes on my JCW it is normal for squeaks....This kinda sounds off.

Anyone ever have this issue with cold weather or in general with your JCW brakes? Also, pads and everything look great.

I think almost everyone has that issue. If I leave my car parked outside on a cooler night, they squeal like crazy the next morning.

Hmm see that is the odd thing, mine is garage kept with AC/Heat in there and it still does it even on hot days up into the 80+ range.

Squealing is totally normal for the JCW Brembo 4pots.
Mine squeak with the stock pads and with Ferodo DS2500 too.

Me too. Hey, good thing our JCW's only cost $30-40 K. It is amazing that we basically accept the concept that Brembos squeak and grin and bear it. I would be ok with a $2,000 rebate from MINI. At least the sound wouldn't be so bothersome.

Especially when pay almost 40,000USD and you pull up to other cars at the stop light and they stare when they see a great looking Mini but I squeak coming to a stop =/

It's not just MINIs that do it......

It's just Brembo's, and many other "racing" big break kits out there.. People that know what's up know there's nothing wrong with the car.. heck, I had a brand new GT-R pull up on me that squeaked.

I'm in Fort Worth, Texas. Mine squeal in any temperature. The dealership told me the same thing. I've come to find out that the Evo and STI owners with the factory Brembo kit all complain about the same thing. Give the car a good brake check on an empty road/parking lot occasionally. It helps temporarily by giving the rotors a layer of pad compound.

I have the Endless MX72 pads on my car and they don't make noise at all hot or cold!

I have noticed that my JCW brakes only squeal when dusty. Once I wash them, they are fine for a few days.

With the OE pads my 09 did not make much noise. Since I went to the Carbotech Bobcats they tend to squeak a bit more than I would like. I will take the squeaking over the crazy brake dust from the OE pads.

I might swap the pads out soon because the dust is crazy. But as far as Brembo squeaking goes...I have them on my G37s and never had a squeak at all for over 40,000miles. So what is kinda why I wanted to ask.

Thanks for all the responses. Now just have to decide on what new pads to put in

They have some Squeal Silencer (NF4OZ) at bavarianautosport.com. I thought about buying some. Any reduction in noise can't hurt.

My brakes make noise sometimes, but went away. I had an emergency at home and was driving very fast to get there. It seems all the hard braking cleaned off the rotors and pads and it went away. It seems you got to use them had or they will make noise. I did not feel too bad after I watched Top Gear and they had a new Porshe. They were flying around the city at night. The pulled up to a stop light and its brakes made noise.

I had a brembo BBK on my S4 and never had squeaking on the road or track. JCW owners should not have to accept squeaking as a "normal" function on the car.

The brand has nothing to do with the problem. It's the pad compound, nothing more. Like it or not, it IS one of the drawbacks to be made when selecting pads. The better/more agggressive the pad is the more noise they will make and the more dust you'll get, depending on the compound. My M3's brakes aren't anywhere near as good as these and those will make noise sometimes. The BBK I had on my Passat squealed too. If you want quiet, long lasting, dust free pads you can get them, but they won't be cheap and you'll probably have to replace your rotors every time you do your pads.

If you REALLY want to see people with real justification, find out how loud a 458 Italia's brakes are, how long they last (or don't last, rather) and then find out hos expensive they are to replace. We have NOTHING to be complaining about.

Such is life.

Only squeal one time a day – when lightly applying the brake while reversing out of the garage in the morning.
Maybe I should back into the garage so I could pull out in 1st gear.

Still, it is way better than some of the Performance Friction pads I have used (83 compound comes to mind as being noisy under any light, parking lot type speed application of the pedal).

With brake pad squeel I have had good luck lubing the backing plates with some anti-sieze or similar high temp lube product. Some brake pads come with a small packet of it for installation, my Hawk HPS pads did.
