2009 JCW - bad water pump

My 2009 JCW just went out of warranty a month ago because of age, and now my water pump is bad. It's only got 17,500 miles on it and I had it looked over by a local dealer before the warranty was up.

This is my 5th MINI and first one I've kept until the warranty ran out. The fact that a water pump goes out with with such low mileage disturbs me. Other than that the car has been great.

I got the timing chain done, and also the aux water pump under that recall. No other maintenance issues until this.

I would not worry about it. Stuff happens. My wife's 09 has 53,000 and no H2O pump problems at all. Drive it an enjoy it. Just because a failure happens early it does not mean that everyone with an 09 should start to worry.

Drive it and enjoy it.

Whats the repair bill for the water pump? Is it a difficult repair?

Getting it fixed this week. The part itself is around 170, not sure what the install is going to cost.

Did you not get a 4 year/50k mile warranty like the rest of us?

Yeah. It's 4 year or 50K miles whichever comes first. As the text youu highlighted states, it's been over 4 years, so my warranty expired.

That was the aux water pump that cools the turbo. Different part.

Does the warranty begin at the mfg. date on the door pillar or when the first owner takes posession? My 2009 JCW has a mfg date of 08/08/08, so I assume it's not under warranty anymore.

The warranty begins when the first owner takes possession of the vehicle. A car could conceivable sit on a dealers lot for months before being sold. So the warranty actually starts when the original/or first owner takes possession of the car not necessarily from the date of manufacture. If you are the original owner your paperwork will reflect the date that you took possession and you can then calculate the end date of the warranty by time. Even if you are not the original owner the Mini dealer can tell you when the car first went into service by looking at the vehicle history.
