That's been my understanding.

What kind of bad things are you referring to ? Blowing engines for too much back pressure ?

Installed the FMIC and DP and used the stage 3 map. Noticed significant power gains but it doesnt feel like the 298 wtq that Alta advertised on their site.. I guess the catback system would make the difference ?

I need to get my car dyno'd to see the realistic results....

Don't forget you should be running a 3" exhaust in order to safely use the stg 3 map...according to them.

Since there were conflicting info whether or not a factory jcw catback will work or not, i decided to give it a shot. I will bump it down to a stage 2 and see what happens as well.

I dont want to dump $1800 on an akra catback system if the gains are not going to wow me.

While I understand and also feel the JCW exhaust has less back pressure than the standard Cooper S, I tend to err on the side of safety. I would hate to pop my little 1.6 cause of one push of a button. So, for now...stg 2 for me. Sad thing is, with my mods they still say only Stg 1 is safe. Maybe I should just drop $300 and get someone with Mini experience to dyno tune my car for me.
