Newbie Seeking Autox or Open-track advice in Philly/Mid-Atla
#1
Okay, I've almost past the the break-in point on my MCS. This car is fabulous! I got the MINI because it best covered all of my desires in one car... If I had the space, I'd have a modern car, and old sports car/roadster, and possibly something to race...My space and wallet constraints won't allow that stable... So the MINI is the perfect modern car for me...
I am really getting the itch to either Auto-x or open track the car. I live in the Philadelphia 'burbs - are there any MINI owners in local racing events? I've checked out the local SCCA schedules and the local BMWCCA schedules. I even looked at the NASA events at the Meadowlands in NJ.
My question is, is there anybody in a MINI attending these events? If so, I'd love to tag along with my MCS and give it a try. I'm just a bit hestitant to show up at these events not knowing anyone at all. I've never raced before, but the it was one of the reasons I bought the MINI.
Any advice would be appriciated.... moderators feel free to put this in the mid-atlantic forum if you desire...but I thought it had more to do with racing.
Thanks in advance.

Veak,
You might want to contact they guys at Helix13 as they are local to you and I believe do a little autocrossing/road racing. Also, be sure to check out your SCCA regional website HERE. I would encourage you to contact them, ask about novice classes, and they will likely have some things to get you started. I would also recommend just signing up for the next event and going on your own as most regions have novice course walk throughs that give you an idea of what you need to do. Also, as a novice you can ride with other, more experienced, drivers to get an idea of what the course is like before you run it yourself.
One word of warning though...the first time you autocross you'll very likely be hooked from then on...especially in a MCS

You'll love doing autocrosses in your MCS! I'm from Otto's MIni in West Chester. This weekend we ran our Z4 at the DC National with drivers Steve Snow and Neal Sapp. Neal, Gerry Walsh, our Mini Parts Advisor and I ran a Cooper at a local Porsche autocross in Maryland on Father's Day and had a blast. The Philly region SCCA has a few Minis competing. Try showing up at the next event, Jeff McRae is one of the locals that does very well in his Mini. Contact me for more info on local area autocrosses. JOE jmccormick@ottosmini.com

There's an autocross this Sunday at the Boeing lot in Ridley Park. Directions are easy. 95 South (or North if you're coming fro Wilmington) to the Ridley park exit. Make a left at the top of the off ramp, about 1/4 mile down te road on the right is the entrance. Check out http://www.autox4u.com for more details. I'll be ter in one of the Otto's Minis, hope you can come and play. Joe
