Strait line?
#1
Has anyone taken their mini cooper or thier mini cooper s to a 1/4 mile, or heck, even an 1/8 mile track yet? Strait line raw acceleration is just as important to me as taking her through the twisties. With it's hp to weight ratio, I would expect at least something in the 15's on the quarter.

Ok, well I noticed that there are a few "Veiws" so maybe some people are interested. According to my calculations, the S will do a standing quarter mile anywhere from 15.2 to 15.8 seconds, depending on the driver. While the regular cooper has been tested at a best time of about 16.7
Just in case anyone wanted to know.

BlueJay,
I think most on the board are not as into the drag side of things. The MINI is really not made for it so the intrest just isn't there. I know how you feel. I like a little get up and go myself. Before that though I'm sold on the handling!!
Now.... If it were a 1/4 mile of S's..... that would be fun!!!!!
Hey I think I'm on to something!!!

Low 15's is very respectable, especially for a inline 4!
Obviuosly the 0-60 times are always the more published performance numbers (and just under 7 is really good to), but I think the 1/4 gives a better feel for the cars overall performace through the RPM bands.
I also Autocross, and of course handling is inportant in that, but you can make up time with power if you need to

Time for an update to this post. I ran my MCS at the ¼ track in WI yesterday, here’s the results: Best time 15.189 @ 91.91 MPH, bets 60’ time 2.382 (very weak, maybe because of the 17” wheels). A majority of the runs were 15.3-15.5 though. All in all, I am very pleased with the times, beat the other imports there no problem.

Can't say anything for dragging, but I did just run an hour on the autobahn (Nurnburg to Wurzburg) at around 95mph (still breaking him in, and yes I varied my speeds). The Cooper cruised wonderfully. It's a little yippie over bumps, but its a short wheel base, not a 5 series BMW! Smiled all the way. In about 1000 miles, I'll be ready to test sustained top speed!

Really great to see that the overwhelming opinion is that this car shines for its handling and not for the basic 0-60 or 1/4mile times that for some reason Americans think is so damn important. I guess that is why my GTI leaves the Camaro's, Mustangs, and Firebirds far behind on a real road track when I would not even consider racing them at a stoplight.
My Cooper S test drive yesterday was the most fun I have had behind the wheel of any car, and that includes some pretty expensive european sports cars that I have been fortunate enough to have been given the keys to for a few hot laps.
I can't wait for mine to get here!
