I am so confused !! HELP PLEASE
I am new to all of this so please dont flame too much. I have been looking at the SCCA web site, the NABR, NASA and so on. What I am trying to find is a class to race (Solo) against the clock on a race track. I mean a real track like Willow Springs or Buttonwillow etc, not cones in a parking lot.
The SCCA talks about Solo I being on a track but everything I find talks about cones and parking lots...I am confused. The NABR is too hard core for me, I still want to be able to street my car.
I am in Southern California and need to be pointed in the right direction.

I'm not sure about SCCA and maybe you have already looked into this, but NASA has a competition called Time Trials or TT. You can work your way up thru HPDE groups 1 thru 4 and then get to the TT events.
I've been doing the NASA HPDE events all this year. Its a fantastic experience. Tracks only, no parking lots with cones (not that there is anything wrong with that). In Northern Callifornia we run at Infineon, Thunderhill and Laguna Seca, Willow Springs or Buttonwillow just to name a few.
Just get out on the track with any race club and test the waters to see if thats what your interested in. You won't be sorry and you'll learn so much about the car and yourself.

How long does it take to get to group 4? Your right, it depends on how fast you want to get there.
I've started (from group 1) in January 2004. After about 4 or 5 sessions I was ready for group 3 and now starting to run with a mixed group of 3 & 4 - pretty intense, open passing everywhere.
I meet a friend who has a MCS and races with me at all the HPDE events. We both have cameras in our cars. We take turns passing each other and share/review the videos - what a hoot! He also races with SCCA in autocross (parking lot/cone thing) he's very good. I've learned allot from him.
